4/97 right here ... i might have had an official 95.5 but damned things were like $10k more than the plain old 95 4cyl at the time (as far as i recall this long time ago)

had i waited another year (1998) to trade in my blue Toyota pickup and upgrade to a larger (xtracab) more power Tacoma v6 I might have tried to get a really sharp looking used 95.5 only ~3yrs old, it would have been a big decision (I am glad I did not have to make such a decision! :)) but i may have had more color choices

    Reminder about rules:

No matter what trim or model as long as it's registered, road worthy and driven (not a garage queen or pile of scrap metal). Post your model, month of build (from your VIN sticker), drive-terrain, current miles (or km if Canada), engine size, transmission type, of locking hubs type (if 4x4). Don't forget to include picture too. No picture, no count :). PM me if you want to update your data posted below.

The number "123,257 sold" is not the same number as of how many they built. I'm sure Toyota was still selling some 95 models in 1996, so probably the number of trucks built is much higher than that. They might be selling "1996 model" at the end of year 1995 but the "model year" is not important, the built date (month and year on the door sticker) what we look for.

By the way this might be the reason why there are so many variants in the single build year. Toyota like all other car manufacturers builds and sells the "next year model" before the end of previous year. I still don't get it how can you buy 2019 model in October 12018 and the door sticker shows 09/18, but that't probably just a marketing BS like everything else.

Do auto manufacturers base the model year off of a 'fiscal year' model vs 'calendar year' maybe? Thought just crossed my mind. Or they manufacture them before and have them ready for the new model year, I guess. Dunno

Not looking for a number. Wondering if there is a cutoff date for manufacturing for autos to sell as a certain model year.

From my professional experience a 1995 model year (as an example) is manufactured from 6/94 to 5/95.

    A 1995.5 model is made from 1/95 to 5/95.

A lot of vehicle parts depend on the actual complete date of manufacture and not just the month and year which is determined by the VIN. When I ordered a speedometer cable for my 6/96 Tacoma the Toyota parts guy said a 6/96 was supposed to have a electronic speedometer but mine has a typical speedometer cable.

When did Toyota stop building their US sold trucks in Japan?

Here was my take on it.
    I owned a 95 ex cab
At the same time I had a 95 tacoma standard cab. My deduction at the time was that Toyota had extra cabs to use up. Just the way I thought it went. It seems not.

This is the '95 I sold my brother in law. It's titled as a 1995 but the production date is 8/95 which should make it a 1996. Idk.20190607_163847.jpg 20190607_163903.jpg 20190607_163917.jpg

Yes the factory sticker is there but I didn't see your reply soon enough, my brother in law left. Next time I see him I'll look, it's a great question.

when i was a lubeTech in early '90s i recall that is how we determined the model year on the '70s and '80s vehicles serviced (lots of carbs!!)

Did you swap the engine? 5lug 2x4 came only with 2.4 engine (or v6 3.4).

Here's my 1995 Taco. Built in 02/95. V6, 5speed, 4wd base model. 130k miles. Clean as a whistle, aside from some light mud splatter.
