Hey guys .So I am getting a camper shell in the very near future. I have a guy lined up to get a leer 100xr next month and I'm 100% happy with that and waiting bc I have committed to the deal, however he is aware that if by some odd chance I find a better deal that makes more sense I will go that route and let him know. I believe we both know he will have no trouble selling his if that happens.Anyways I did just that and found a ARE that is pretty sweet and a hell of a deal but I dont know what model it is and neither does the owner as he bought it second hand.I just want to verify to see if it's a good quality version and it is actually a good deal. Also if anyone had any experience, feedback recommendation or maybe complaints on their camper shell with like a prinsu or like with an rtt because this is the direction I am going with this??Also any opinions on leer vs are or any other suggestions will be appreciated. So here is the cap in question guys. Let me know if anyone in knows the model of this.... Thanks for any feedback

Yeah I agree with you actually but that's not the issue I know it fits my truck because the guy that has it had it on the same truck model I'm more Curious of which exact series if she'll this is so I know if I'm actually getting a good deal like I think I am and getting a quality product. Thanks for the advice though

You could still contact ARE and they can tell you what shell it is

Definitely a v series. The big tell is the side windows. The v series is flush with the fiberglass and the cx series is recessed in.

Edit: personally I like the v series side windows being flush. I feel dupped when I ordered my cx because I thought the side windows were flush with the option I picked. Their ordering process isn’t clear nor do they have the correct pictures for your selection.

oh I did, he speaks very broken English. Maybe he's pricing it in pesos.....

ok so I agree and think ive confirmed it is a v series. So here's where I'm at, I have a leer 100xr lined up to buy so which is a better cap considering I'm running a prinsu and rtt on it assuming I get either at the same exact price??.. also is there any known difference in structural quality in between the v series and the cx??

Not familiar with leer but the v and cx is essential the same regarding weight capacity. I read most ppl that will run a tent or some weight tend to go with the cx heavy duty option or whatever it’s called. It’s basically a reinforced roof able to carry more weight

I agree that option would be very nice but at a high cost, and I'm buying second hand for sure. The deals are too good not to, and I have seen countless guys running a prinsu and rtt on the models I listed before which is why I'm going this route.

100% sure that's an ARE V-series for the 3rd gen, it'll fit on short beds (no DCLB or ACLB)... The windows and rack aren't long enough for it to be a long bed top. You can tell it's for the 3rd gen by the lip here:

    Untitled.jpg

The two side windows are the "outdoorsman windoors" - I have the same thing on my ARE MX. They flip up, and are AWESOME for camping. They are worth around $200 per side new. They have built-in screens for the middle part, which slides and is great for putting dogs in the back.

The roof rack is the factory rack, and looks like it has Yakima towers on it already.

It also has the trimless edge option at the base, which matches body lines better.

The front looks like a standard slider window, nothing fancy, but another minor upgrade.

That's about a $2500-$3000 cap new, depending on your area. I'd jump on this one if it's priced well.

Only the CX series (with the recessed windows) that other folks are talking about higher up comes with reinforcement for the roof rack, and this definitely is not a CX. I wouldn't stress about that -- unless you and your spouse are going to be pushing 500lbs in addition to the weight of an RTT, you'll be fine without a CX HD, even running an RTT. Tons of people do it.

Yeah its for sure a 3rd gen short bed bc that's what he had I appreciate you taking the time for that.It would be myself, my wife and my daughter so between us we are all 3 under 500lbs for sure. He's offering a very fair deal for sure I just have a couple options to weigh out.I'm also looking at an overlanding edition Are and I'm committed to a leer 100xr but the seller knows I'm always looking for a better deal possibility. The only downfall of this v series is he does not have the cross bar keys but from reading online it's an easy fix and removal and considering I won't use them I may just tap them out.

I share my CX label which I would think confirms you are looking at a V series. The roof rack and tracks are worth a couple hundred, as are the side opening windows. Probably a tough choice you are facing. Good luck:

    Added front receiver.
Leer has an 100XQ where the front of the side window matches the rear window on the double cab. That's what I'm after. $ 2500.

That does look good but I've gotta have an opening side window.

You have been more than helpful man. So the more I thought about it the more I realized I would personally like to buy new and I really think I want the CX - HD. So what my plans are is to buy a second-hand cap and use it for a big upcoming trip and then resell and put that towards a new cap. I'm hoping that I'll be able to get the majority of the $1,500 back that I will have in the used cap After paint.
