Pretty sure the Canadian trucks use R134a so that will save you some money. The 1234yf is about 3 times more expensive.

Good lesson though. Just like you are supposed to go into 4hi 10 miles a month to keep the seals lubricated you can do the same thing with the AC system. Did you not run defrost mode often last winter? That should run the compressor.

well, I wasn't so lucky. Evaporator replacement. They had to tear out the dash to do it. I get the truck back and it's making a noise when the AC is running. It almost sounds like it's breathing about every 30-45 seconds. Loudly. Took it back and they did a ride along. They admitted it wasn't right. They kept the truck and tore the dash out again to investigate. They couldn't find it so they had to call in a Toyota Field Engineer. He suggested a replacement of the Evaporator again, but said a new design was being released in July because other trucks have had similar problems after replacement. I've accepted the truck as it is until the part is available.
$1400 for original replacement, Toyota paid 2/3 under customer loyalty (my 3rd new Toyota). The new part will be installed under part warranty for free.
And they have to remove the dash. Again. For the 4th time.

They finally just finished everything yesterday, this took 3 separate visits to the dealer. Once to figure out what was wrong, 2nd time to replace the seals that they had to order, 3rd time to recharge the system as they didn't have the refrigerant in stock after changing the seals!

My son took my truck in yesterday for me as I'm working in Germany right now, so later today I'll phone him and see what the "cost sharing" statement from Toyota added up to!

Thanks for the update. Mines blowing cold from the drivers far left and as you got right each vent is warmer. Hoping it’s not a bad evaporator and simply a seal or something. Taking mine in next week right before warranty is up.

Well I have to say I'm very happy, and frankly a little surprised. My dealership covered the whole bill for identifying the problem, fixing the defective seals, and recharging the system. It works like a charm again, and no charge.
I guess getting all my service done at the dealership I bought the truck from may have paid off.

May be a leak. You need to use the AC even during the winter (or so I’ve read) or the seals might dry out and it could leak. Just turn it on and mix warm air every month or so during the winter.
