I am getting ready to move out to Montana on the 1st of July and will promptly be looking for and buying a Toyota Tacoma. This is a 6(ish) year dream that is about to come to fruition and I want to do it right. I am between two options and have a few questions, option number 1: buy a TRD pro and keep it pretty much the same. Option 2: buy a TRD off-road, and switch out for the fox internal bypass shocks that come standard on the PRO and put new wheels and tires on. There are a lot of reasons I'm having trouble and I'll do my best to explain and keep it short. I like the PRO, A LOT, except for the width of the wheels, I wish they were a little wider for a bit "meaner" stance, so that's why option two is an option, I could put those fox shocks on and put my own tires and wheels on, plus a bit more of a lift. (through the dealer as to keep it all under warranty)

Second issue is what I should be paying, I've been researching a bit, but was curious if anyone had any information on that, so I don't get taken to the cleaners. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to TW...location will be a factor as far as price goes. What does the pro have that you can’t live without?

The FOX internal bypass shocks, whatever model I get, those are the shocks I want. As far as ive seen otherwise, nothing else on it is so killer that i need it.

Welcome to TW! This is a similar question I had when buying the truck, and I ultimately decided on the Off Road. Honestly, with the money you save, you can customize the truck in the exact way you need to. You really wont miss out on any crazy features the Pro will offer. If you are looking for a truck to just have 90% of the work done for you, get the Pro and get better tires. Price wise, it was about a 12k difference between the Off-Road and Pro models (38k out the door for my truck, they wanted 50k out the door for the Pro).

For me, I really love customizing my truck the way I think it should have been, especially with Meso's products :spending:. At the end, it's really a matter of practicality and if it's worth the extra cost for things that you can do later. :headbang:

One concern I had was voiding warranty with aftermarket parts, is this a common thing?

I wouldn't be surprised if Toyota would frown upon putting pro shocks/struts on an offroad. It isn't how it came from the factory so said warranty might be voided just the same as with going aftermarket. That being said this is just an assumption on my part so take it with a grain of salt.

I always assumed they just wouldn't cover that specific changed modification. I wouldn't think they'd void engine failure as a result of a 2 in" lift.

PRO’s generally come with a dealer markup (YMMV). If you are concerned with function get the OR and build it up. If you got to have the PRO get a PRO.

Typically, to void a warranty, the part that failed has to be from a direct result of something you did or altered. If you alter the suspension and then you have electrical or engine problems that will still be covered.
