Recently I have had brake light issues and the truck wasn’t coming out of park so I changed my brake light switch and changed the 10A Stop fuse for extra measures. But the new switch keeps my brake lights on continuously and when I press the button down it turns them off? I opened up the switch and it seems to work as should. Now when I plug either the new or old one in the brake lights don’t turn off and I can press the button to turn them off. What am I missing here? Thanks in advance

    Sounds like a relay issue.

Check your owners manual. It’ll tell you.

Sounds like a adjustment issue .

When the pedal is in the normal position the arm of the brake pedal should keep the switch pushed in that is the open position of the switch when the pedal is pushed in this allows the switch to close lighting the lights.

I am not a AT person but if the ECM does not detect the brake light signal it will not come out of park I know there is a bypass if the brake light circuit fails

Unless they added a Relay in the newer trucks there should not be one

Plug the switch in, lights are on right?

Now depress the plunger on the switch, are the lights still on?

If not, then install the switch and adjust it until the lights are off.

Then push the pedal, lights should come on

Release the pedal and ensure the lights go out

If not adjust the switch till they do.

Simple system, now, have you made absolutely sure there is only one switch?

    Some vehicles have 2........

Maybe some pics would help us help you.

The brake light switch may be bad.

From the original post it sounds like the switch is fine but for whatever reason the brake pedal is not pushing on the switch plunger. How brake switches work is when the pedal is at rest the plunger is pushed in breaking the circuit thus brake lighrs are off, then when you push the pedal you are letting the switch plunger extend(spring inside) thus making the electrical circuit whole and turing on the brake lights. To check this remove the switch and with it plugged in push the plunger in, lights should be off. now let the plunger extend, lights should be on. If that works correctly then look at where the brake pedal makes contact with the switch plunger, plunger should be pushed in all the way when brakes are not applied.
I hope this is not to confusing, it's a really simple system that people get confused about since when the button is pressed the switch is off, which goes against what one expects

You're probably right. I was suspicious the switch came from Auto Zone.

Thanks so much. My fault from beginning. I thought it was a simple “press the button for break lights” kinda switch but I guess not.
