Spray POR-15 inside frame?

Well the damn county road crews have started using brine solutions on the roads here the last couple of years. I have light rust on the outside of my frame, and doing a finger inspection of the inside of the frame says the front half is good, but the back half has some rust starting. Frame is still good and solid, but I want it to stay that way.

I'm looking at using POR-15 and then fluid film annually. Probably do fluid film on the wife's '17 4-Runner annually as well just to be safe.
Can I use this to spray POR-15 inside the frame?

That won't get inside where the frame is boxed.

I've seen some other posts about this around here. I think I remember some people using some type of extension form a pressure washer or something.

 

I sprayed the internal boxed section of my frame with the Eastwood stuff.

Washed in the inside as best I could and followed with the air gun to clean out as much junk as I could. A few days later (letting it dry really well) did the coating and have done Fluid Films since.

I dunno if it really worked or will help.

 

I did this too on my replaced frame. The stuff has held up so far after 2 years and I have felt around inside the frame through the holes and it feels very smooth (ie zero no rust).

 

@Sodom, I did mine right after buying it 4 years ago now and it seems about the same from what I can tell so it may be legit. The Fluid Film is building up into a pretty thick goo, too. Maybe the whole frame rail will be filled eventually and leave to no space for moisture!

Funny you should mention that. For rust to form, you need water, iron, and air. Block off any of those (or more than one) and you should greatly reduce risk of rust formation. I have been seriously thinking about filling the boxed section of my frame with:

 

@DaveInDenver which one did you use the green one or black on and what is the difference between them?

 

I used the green but I think the difference is cosmetic. When I did it I don't know if the black existed but I'd use green again so you can see what you're doing.

It's Fluid Film that is building up after I think about half a dozen applications. It really doesn't smell like anything. I'll see if I can get a picture of it sometime. It's not really building up that much. When it warms up in the summer it flows out a little and I wipe it down the frame.

 

Do not put this in your frame. It will absorb or trap moisture and rot your frame to hell. People used this in their rockers in the past and rotted them out faster than Mother Nature could do herself.

 

does it wash off or does it harden/have to scrape it off?
I have been entertaining the Krown spray mist inside, about $150 per year app is what I was told
not exactly sure how it works yet, though

 

Fluid Film doesn't harden, it's like a oily wax kind of consistency. It's thicker than kerosene but not quite hardened linseed varnish.

 

so it will be rather difficult/messy to remove? like sludge in sewer pipes?

 

Yeah, I was joking, but not successfully. I used Fluid Film the last two years. I bought a gun off Amazon, but did not try it yet. I think it would have been fine to go two years with none added.

 

It's not super hard to remove, it wipes off and you can use mineral spirits or acetone. But yeah down inside the frame or in nooks it's not really ever coming off completely. It does seem to leave a bit of residual film but I've been able to sand/prime/paint a few rust bubbles where I've covered before and it seemed to stick.

 

how does it handle high pressure spray at the spray-n-wash (or undercarriage wash in the drive in washes), i have to hose it all down regularly in the frigid winter
