I have searched countless times in many sections of the forum and on google, but can’t seem to find the answer that I’m looking for.

I want to swap out the green LEDs on the steering controls for white LEDs. One, to get them brighter. Two, to make them match all of my other dash lights. I have the controls apart and noticed 2 very small, rectangular LEDs on the board. 2 per side. They appear to be 1mm LEDs. I have done the LED swap on the 05-11 trucks, but those LEDs were larger.

My question is, has anyone tackled this and if so, what LEDs did you use? Thanks in advance.

Mostly electrical shit that nobody cares about.
I've never done this, but if I had a 2012 with green steering LEDs, I totally would since I used to do this stuff for work.

First of all, surface mount LEDs come in a few sizes. Most commonly 0603 and 0805 meaning .06"x.03" and .08"x.05". I suggest you measure the size you have on the board and sort that as your first filter on Digikey. This is your best resource for electronic components. However keep in mind, that we don't know the millicandela or current rating of the green ones, making it hard to find an exact match in white. Furthermore, their exact brightness is tuned by changing the size of the resistors which are also unknown on this board without further investigation. Nonetheless, from the information provided, I would suggest buying these. Just verify that the size matches.

I blew mine on my old steering controls a long time ago with a 9v battery when I was testing something. I tried finding out what type of LEDs they are but didn’t feel like ordering a bunch. Best bet is take measurements and go from their and search for “surface mount LEDs”.

Might be a 1206 LED. But you’d have to measure

How hard was it to pop that out? Just take something flat and pop it open and remove?

To get them brighter you might also need to change R8-R11to lower value resistors or double stack extras of the same value.
