I hope you're not paying by the yard; that looks to be about a 1/2. A true yard of gravel weighs around 2500lbs (dry) and in a 5 foot bed would have been around a foot deep from bed wall to bed wall.

 

It was a spur of the moment one time thing for work. Although I could tell it was there when driving haha

Squatting is normal. If your suspension was so stiff what would happen is the front of truck would start lifting up off the ground. The back axle would become a pivot point.

Just had a retaining wall put in at my place. Took nine trucks (124 yards) to back fill it. Those 9 trucks forever changed the dynamics of my 20 year old driveway. lol

Yeah, a full yard would have wrecked your suspension. I'd even be hesitant to put a yard of stone in the back of my Ram, and it's rated for a lot more than a Tacoma. He did you a favor, of sorts, but also ripped you off for like $6.

 

I don’t think you were ripped off. That is a yard of gravel. A yard of gravel is the amount the fits in a box that is 1 yard x 1 yard x 1 yard (a cubic yard). If you scoop that gravel up, I’d say you got the right amount, if not a little more.

 

A yard is 27 cubic feet (3'x3'x3'). The short bed on a Tacoma measures 60" (5 feet) X 56" (41" between the wheel wheels). So let's round it to 5x5. Even if we pretend the wheel wells aren't there, and the bed is 4" wider than it actually is, a layer of gravel that was a foot deep over the ENTIRE bed footprint would only be 25 cubic feet, 2 short from a yard.
If you figure in the space lost to the wheel wells and the true dimensions of the bed, a true cubic yard in the bed of that truck would be between 14" & 15" deep, spread evenly from bedwall to bedwall and tailgate to front panel.

For scale, this trailer has a bed that is 16 feet long, 7 feet wide, and 2 feet deep, and it's only got 6 yards in it.

Lol. Dimensions are tough; it's how a lot of people get ripped off on gravel, mulch, firewood, etc, because we can't convert from rigid dimensions to piles in our brains. I do some property service as a 'side hustle' so I've gotten better at it, but a few years ago I couldn't tell the difference either.

It's almost easier if you keep it all in inches; a cubic yard is 46,656 cubic inches.
So:
46,656 / 60 / 56 = 13.9, or a depth of nearly 14" across the bed.
