My 2007 had 5 with one in the spare but I think the 2005's did not so someone may fill in the blanks?

Well, they did in 2007. Look in your Owner's Manual. Look for the reset button.

TPMS is listed as available for 08/2005 production and newer Tacoma. Whether every truck actually got it I don't know.

I guarantee you that 2007 Tacos had TPMS -- I have one. I have a slow leak in my left front tire, and every couple of weeks it nags me about it until I top it off.

My 2008 has the 4 + spare TPMS, too. I assume all 2005+ trucks do but the OP's question is vague. Maybe it was phased in initially and a poverty spec 2WD, regular cab didn't have it yet in 2006 but all SR5 and up did automatically. I can't say I know.

Yes, I suppose it's possible that it was phased in. But my 2007 is a poverty spec (albeit 4WD) regular cab 4 cyl manual transmission - pretty much bottom of the line. I bought it used, and I remember shortly after I bought it trying to figure out the cruise control. Suddenly I realized that there WAS no cruise control!

There ya go! The only similar thing I can think of that even remotely parallels was when EFI was introduced to trucks in 1985 the base 2WD regular cabs still got carbs up to I think 1988 and maybe even later. Also in 1991 my previous truck being 4WD no longer required you to optionally add power steering, that was generously included even on the lowest spec 4WD DLX that I had. That trucks came with AM/FM radio, no A/C, a split bench (on account of being XtraCab).

    My 06 has it.

It doesn't work, but it has it.

My 2006, built 12/05 has it, 5 sensors including spare.

I believe it was a mandated feature starting in 2007, so all the 07's should have it.

You should see a tire light come on with key on, engine off, it should go out after you start the engine.

Had a company truck that was one of the first 2005's sold in 2004, no TPMS. I was under the impression it started with 06's

Optional in '05-06 Tacoma, standard from 07+ (as part of the TREAD Act; requiring ALL new vehicles sold after September 1, 2007 to be equipped with TPMS).
