New Tacomas don't have factory installed alarms?

I'm in the process of shopping for a new Tacoma and the salesman told me that the new Tacomas don't typically come with factory installed alarms; he says the dealer typically installs them. I'm not at all excited about having some 3rd party pinheads cut/splice wires on a brand new truck.

Is that true? That seems hard for me to believe that any Tacoma wouldn't have a factory alarm.

There is the standard alarm. that is if a door is opened after the truck is locked and its opened in a way that is not normal (from the inside after everyone exits etc) then alarm will go off.

But stuff like glass break sensor etc is not stock.

There is a factory OEM option for the glass break detector. However it's for the Tacomas with automatic transmissions, it won't work for the 3rd Gen Tacomas with manual transmissions.

Dealers typically install aftermarket alarms using third party installers and then mark up the price for that option to the buyer.

I have a MT and after much research and phone calls I located an installer who is going to install a Compustar alarm system which will integrate with my existing factory alarm system. It will add motion and shock sense to the existing door alarm system.

Compustar is highly recommended by most professional auto installers.

OP, send me a message if you need more info, the installer is near Sacramento.

Depends on your definition of "alarm"

But either way if you want an actual shock sensor (which for the most part is what people mean when they say "alarm") your only option is after market, you can install it yourself though if you don't want a pinhead doing it :)

My 2019 TRD sport (I have the above sticker on my window)has an alarm that goes off if the doors or hood is opened. Verified it myself by locking it with the window rolled down and opened a door. I reset it and pulled the hood Latch. The alarm activated in both instances.

Does yours activate if you lift the handle and let it clunk back or bump the side of the door? My 2017 has shock detection too.

I think that blinking dash light goes hand in hand with the chip in the key or fob, once it recognizes it then it will allow the truck to be started.

I've seen that sticker on mine but I just thought it was a faux alarm warning to keep thieves, that don't know much about, away. So I guess we do have one?
