I'm going to put in the ecgs bushing next week. I decided not to buy their puller and I made one real similar. But I also have a slide hammer and I wondered if anyone has pulled clamshell bearing with one? I'm not sure how to upload an image on here but its the one that expands as you tighten it up. Just trying to have a plan b in case my homejob puller doesn't work out

imho, slamming the spider gear into the carrier housing isnt the best thing to be doing... will you get away with it and for how long, who knows. If it comes out first hit then I wouldnt worry too much, mutlple slams are something else.
I understand the not wanting to buy a one time use tool. When I did mine and me being a pessimist all I could think of is what am I going to do if this fix goes bad. If I cant get the stock bearing housing out am I going to have to take the diff out to complete this fix. The only issue I had was that the bearing was seated almost all the way to the bottom and I had difficulty getting the tool to catch the outer edge of the original bearing. A little grinding on the tools edge for a better bite and it pulled right out.

Yeah I don't want to cause issues that aren't there now. I will probably try the puller I made. The one ecgs sells is pretty simple and mine is nearly the same. I just wanted a plan B in case for some reason it didn't work
