    Hello all,

I'm about to buy a 19 Tacoma. I'm looking at all the extra accessories and the the genuine dash cam offered at $642.50. How has this product been for anyone who has it? I always wanted to use a dash cam, and the idea of it already coming installed is enticing.

Edit: Price is Canadian (More expensive then $USD), and it's offered on ToyotaCanada, not just a dealership

    Thanks

I didn’t know there was an OEM dash cam. I’d guess it’s a dealer add on with 2-3x markup.

I put in a rexing camera and it cost me under $200 for everything.

I dont know about the Genuine Toyota dash cam, but I can tell you install is really easy and you can get a really good camera with front and rear cam for less than that.

You can get a top of the line BlackVue for less than that...and they are one of the best dash cams on the market. So many features...

My 2019, purchased last week, had the Toyota dealer installed dash camera already installed. I had the dealer remove it and the $640Cdn price tag along with it as part of the deal.

Although I need an engine block heater, I refused to pay $455Cdn for a dealer installed block heater and will get on from an indy mechanic for less than half the dealer price.

Depending on how said block heater installs I rather let the dealer mess with it on a new vehicle.

You might look into this. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/...mpaign=bck-06292019perks&gs_variant=control#/ From the video, it's rather intriguing, I've thought about picking it up. I've been in on the ground floor of several start-ups off of Indiegogo that are now mainstream companies and have been very satisfied with the products. I got in at the beginning with iKamper, Happy Atoms, Canary & Zore, now all mainstream companies putting out great products on mainstream store shelves, with the exception of Zore, who is still in development stage on some products still pending.

I just installed a Blackvue 900s-2ch with the power magic EZ. On Amazon, the camera with a 32gb card and the power magic EZ was $510. It took around an hour to install. The power Magic EZ supplies power to the cameras via the OBD2 port. No wiring necessary. All plug and play

that's the first I've heard of Toyota offering an official OEM Dash Cam. I usually like such things to be OEM, but in this case there are so many better looking options on the market for less cost I think that's the way to go. Do a little nosing around at https://www.blackboxmycar.com/ . A top of the line two channel Thinkware is just under $400 and the premium BlackVue two channel is $480. Both brands offer less expensive set ups that still great preform. I've had a BlackVue DR750 installed for several years running every minute the truck is on with out a problem. Waiting for it to fail so I can get a 900 but I guess I might be waiting awhile the way this thing preforms.

I've got a Blackvue 750 2CH with a B-124 battery pack and a mirror stalk mount that is hella nice but embarrassingly expensive. Anyway, everything was about 600 (in freedom dollars). I don't know what the OEM offers but I have a sneaking suspicion it ain't nearly as much as you'd get with a comparable setup as mine (Thinkware also seems pretty good).

the Garmin mini is interesting. inexpensive and VERY small, which is why I am considering it. Best Buy said they will install for a small fee as well.
    Has anyone tried this?

I wouldn't pay best buy to install basic things like this for you unless you are physically limited in some way. It's just hiding the wiring in the weather stripping and trim of the vehicle.

Thanks to advice from LivinOnEdge and Markram, I researched and read the offered posts. To save others some time, Here is link to youtube video showing extremely easy install, powered to mirror, with "Dongar" device.
Looks like this may then only power when car on, but if this works for you, couldnt be easier or cleaner.

OMG, $650, LOL. I think I spent less than $125 US for my Anker setup in the stock GoPro mount hardwired to the mirror harness. So many better options out there for a sh*t ton less money.

Oddly, the Toyota camera isn't plug-n-play: it splices into factory wiring with Scotchlock taps. The biggest drawback, though, is the lack of a rear-facing camera.
