Good, less emissions, less roll away vehicles. All these features exist because of human error.

Long idling is terrible for the catalyst.

I foresee a lot of issues with it not working properly and causing peoples vehicles to shut off at random times and/or in traffic jams. Also, more electronic gizmos to go bad at some point and need to be repaired that won’t be cheap.

it's all coming in the future and progressive places in Europe have standards already. but yes, transitions just absolutely suck.

A lot of vehicles now have an auto shut off and start system. When they come to a light the engine shuts off until you lift your foot off the brake. This sounds like it’s if the vehicles is put in park and someone exits the vehicle with the smart key and didn’t turn the engine off it’ll shut off after a certain time. Who knows, maybe a sensor in the seat like the airbag sensor will tell the vehicle if someone is in the seat like traffic jams.

Gonna suck for the broverlanders who leave the engine running to charge their phones and goal zero yeti’s.

I personally am not a fan. The wife’s forester does it and I hate it. It’s just an added workload to the starter and engine components which will increase its wear faster and just be more money to be spent sooner, all to save 1-2MPG. It’ll be interesting to see this roll out.

This is the exact reason they do this. Ever hear of Planned Obsolescence?

They actually have a counter on the starter, after about 12000 start stops the starter triggers a code and needs to be replaced :)

this tech has been in the Highlander for years now with no issues. Im sure it will be fine.

It seems to me that they were trying to say that it is all new for other models. Apparently, I did embellish a bit on the "years" come to find out the Highlander got it in 2017 I was under the impression it was on it for 2014.

and the bit about it shifting into park automatically is new as well.

"If a driver exits a vehicle without putting it in park, it will automatically shift and/or apply the parking brake."

not a fan, causes extreme load on valvetrain components/bearings, and starters. causes un-necessary stress on items that are typically not replaceable (easily, or cheaply)..

had a car salesman take a 2015 porsche cayenne for a drive over the weekend.. he brought it back saying there was something wrong with it. at nearly every light it would shut off the engine, and he had to restart it every time..

I was unsure as this was a trade-in vehicle, and didnt have what packages were installed on it. I started it up took it for a drive with a few stops.. didnt shut down.. but then again it wasnt at temp. so i left it running for about 10 minutes. went back out, and it was still running.. took a short drive.. first stop sign.. the engine shut off, foot off brake pedal engine started again.. was a base model cayenne v6... nice interior, but I wouldnt buy one....

i.e. Them old folks. Seriously. I've run on a few incidents where old timers slide out of their Oldsmobiles without putting them in park. Good and bad. Definitely adds to the vehicle complexity and maintenance costs.

Our 2018 'lander has start/stop, but only sounds an alarm and flashes the dash display if the car is moving with an open door. Thankfully we can push a button that disables the start/stop. My wife is actually more of a stickler for it than I am, and has to remind me to hit the button all the time!

This isn’t stop/start like euro vehicles have. It’s more safetywise...

“If a vehicle is left running for a predetermined amount of time, the engine will automatically shut off. If a driver exits a vehicle without putting it in park, it will automatically shift and/or apply the parking brake.”

This is to safeguard people from roll away vehicles, cars running in garages and killing people, or shutting off if you forget to turn it off after a while.
