So I recently noticed a dent near the windshield of my truck on the driver's side. Unfortunately what got my attention was the fact that the paint had been chipped off and rust had set in. I took it to a local body shop who said it would cost over $300 to fix. I'm not an auto body expert in the least but is there any way I can fix this dent myself? Most videos and information I have found involved popping out larger dents but nothing like what has happened to my truck. Any help would be incredibly appreciated. fullsizeoutput_58f.jpgfullsizeoutput_591.jpg

I'm no expert on stuff like this but couldn't you fill it with bondo and use some Toyota touch up paint to make it match?

I have a few dents on my 04 that I've been thinking about going this route on anyway.

Dude you have a 2016. Pay $300 and move on. Protect your investment versus filling full of bondo or doing a half ass repaint.

Unfortunately, that is a very visible and STRONG part of the truck There is no "popping" that one out. That will be a fill, sand and blend paint job done properly . I would at least try to treat that rust with with a chemical rust treatment and touch it up as best as possible to prevent further rusting. It looks like it has been like that for a while.

I had the same problem on my truck. Old lady mowing her stone driveway launched a rock hit dead center on the pillar up higher. Very deep gouge at least 1/2 inch deep. I was charged 200 cash at my shop.

$300 is not reallly all that much... I’d be concerned if the shop did the job without trying to push the dent out from the inside to at least minimize the depth of the dent, and ensure the sanding gets down into that deep point as best as possible. Maybe the picture is misleading to me, but looks to be a deep pointed object caused the dent and would be difficult to remove the rust from the deepest parts. Anyways, I think the dent could be pushed from inside by removing the pillar mounding, but would still require some body fill and such, although this level of effort would likely be more than $300 and requiring removal of the inside pillar mounding. Still, if my truck, I’d try to push out the dent as much as I can before handing to shop, if they are not going to go that level for the quoted price.

You might want to be around to make sure the rust removal is complete or face having it spread below the ‘fixed’ area later. See if they would be OK with having you inspect the rust removal before any cover is applied. Worse thing would be to have the repair look good, but not be complete and later have to deal with a bigger issue down the line.

Pay the body shop to fix it.

You’ve let that go for so long you’ve got to sand the whole pillar and repaint.

It looks like its been there for over a year...
