I was working on Class VI to Class VIII research and design for both hybrid and plug in 20 years ago. At that time it was not doable. 10 years it was not doable. Class VI is doable now under very limited use. Think the new Tesla truck. No class VIII (OTR tractor) and nothing remotely on the radar for off highway vehicles. Sure, they will eventually figure it out but not in my lifetime. I'm 56 and the actuary tables say I have 20 years or so lol.

I, too, am 56 and I hope the tables are wrong (my dad has a PHd in statistics from Cornell, so I am somewhat familiar and my major was math). But, yeah, it isn’t going to happen in 10 years.

I think that by the time I had it built like I wanted, a TRD OR was 43-44k, which could obviously be negotiated (which I hate to deal with as well). I like the sport scoop (sue me), which I was bummed about not having on the OR. I also like solid color wheels. At the end of the day, I would have bought an OR, wanted different wheels, a bit of a lift, and I probably never would have had the hood I wanted. Not to mention that I probably would have had to order the one I wanted. TRD Pro came with all of that, and it was just a matter of picking a color. I'm not saying it was the world's most rational decision, but someone smoked me on my motorcycle a couple of months ago, which left me without a daily, and my 86 MR2 was a manual that my freshly minted titanium elbow wasn't gonna be happy about for a while.... so I decided to treat myself.

It's refreshing to buy a vehicle and say "oh, it has everything I want except window tint and seat covers for the dogs" and be done

Price will vary based on location, mileage, condition of the truck, etc. I can tell you low mileage 2nd gens seem to be fetching a premium.

Correct ! Need to update my info … just purchased a 2019 Sr5p T4R and my 14 Taco with almost 70k miles still got me close to 30 bones on the trade.
