My '14 Tacoma HD radio has had a 1 second delay in broadcast stations, AM and FM, since new. Irritating, but not too bad. However, now it shifts back and forth from real time to 1 second delay, sometimes only every few minutes, sometimes 2 0r 3 times in one minute.
Very distracting. Any body had this problem? How to fix?

    Like, so many.
I've noticed it, but it's less than a second. More like a skip. I have no idea about the technology or how to fix it.

I work for HD Radio and unfortunately with the chip that's in the '14 Tacoma radio there isn't anything you can do other than disable HD.

The issue is that you're at or near the edge of coverage coupled with the broadcaster not aligning their digital and analog signals. In newer radios we account for this (because most broadcasters won't fix it) and have an audio buffer so we can align it ourselves.

What market and radio stations are you experiencing this with? I can try to pass along the information and maybe the broadcaster will correct it.

I disabled the HD in my '17 WRX because I couldn't get a good signal. It was constantly cutting in/out. The factory radio gets louder when the HD kicks in, so the volume was constantly changing which was super annoying. I just listen to SXM now when I'm driving my car.

Unfortunately this is also a common complaint and some radio manufacturers are better than others. I'm not sure who makes Subaru radios off the top of my head (Harmon maybe?) but in my experience Ford has the highest quality control on their radios and makes sure their radio OEMs have everything as close to perfect as possible. In newer radios we also try to account for this by setting the digital volume to the same level as the analog.

Searching for an old post of mine and came across your post that I didn't respond to before. Harmon Kardon is the upgraded WRX sound system, but I'm not sure if they make the head unit. The base head unit, which I have, is made by Clarion if I remember correctly.
