I have a 09 extended cab 4cyl auto 2wd in great shape. The only complaint I have is I want more power. As I'm in CA the only way to do this is go to a 6cyl. Does anyone know of a shop that has done a 4 to 6 swap before that will pass CARB inspection?

The list is long but distinguished
Apologies, I don't have a shop recommendation for you and the following is unsolicited so take it as a grain a salt. Do not go with any shop that doesn't try to talk you out of this first. I have done these types of swaps and it will be very expensive and time consuming. Most shops will not quote a flat rate as this is custom so its time and materials. Easily low 5 figures. Good luck!

Toy Connection looks iffy. They seem to have the knowledge but reviews in Yelp indicate they're swamped so badly they're at the edge of self destructing. Last thing I need is a partial swap and the owner goes nutso and tells me to come get my vehicle.

With what you are asking, that’s a possibility with 99.9 percent of the shops out there.

Most swaps are difficult, require unique solutions to individualistic requirements and exist in a flexible timeline. Shops don’t like to operate with these types of confining stipulations.

    Good luck in your quest!

This is going to be a very expensive and time consuming swap, especially if you plan on getting it CARB certified. If you have a shop do it, expect to pay between $30,000-$40,000. This is the price that other shops quote for similar conversions in Tacomas and other vehicles. Diesel Toys will put a 1KD-FTV Turbodiesel conversion in your truck for roughly $30,000.

I would say do a Turbo, but we all know you can’t do that here unless you know a Smog guy.

Engine swaps really aren’t worth it unless you have that kind of money to waste, or you do it yourself.
