The only physical difference I could find between the 2 (i’ve Had both) is the garnish ... The PT228-35180 seems to be originally a PT228-35170 with the PT228-35180 stamped (quite sloppily I might add) on it additionally.

I work for a Toyota Dealership in Upper Management. Toyota Motor Sales sent a memo to all dealerships to not sell any grilles to vehicles equipped with Toyota safety sense vehicles, Unless they match vin #s . Due to the recall issues of the the cameras. They also won't do the repairs necessary for the recalls unless it is the factory grill that came equipped with the vehicle.
    Thanks

    Like, so many.
    My dealer sells Pro parts.
Edit. After reading all of that above, maybe they no longer do. They did when I got my 17.

I agree with what others have said, in that your dealer sucks. If you HAVE to have OEM, then go to another dealer, or go to Ebay. Several Toyota dealers have Ebay pages. I actually ordered a couple of my accessories off of Ebay, and didn't even realize until I ordered, that the parts came from a Toyota dealer! I also found that by looking on Ebay, sometimes you can get OEM parts off of there cheaper than at the dealer. Example, I got the rubber bed mat for my 2019 Tacoma TRD Sport, and only paid $89 for it off of Ebay. The local dealer here sells is for about double that! And yet, it is a Toyota accessory! I also ordered a trailer hitch cover that was a Toyota part, off of Ebay. It too, was cheaper than buying at my local dealer! But for such things as the TRD Pro grill, I definitely suggest that you go aftermarket, which is what I did, as you will save several hundred dollars over dealer price for an OEM one.

This is something that is still causing confusion amongst those who read this forum along with others. Some dealers do not care that you switched grills, while others refuse to do repairs necessary, if any, and others will do repairs but make you sign a waiver. It just depends on the dealer. One thing I have done, is make friends with the guys in the service department. That way, if there is indeed ever a problem with my vehicle, it is better to have a friend inside that not!

My dealership had the numbers. I asked how many pros they were allocated for the 2019 model and was told they received 24 pros.

Its funny how every dealer has their own # of units produced. Makes me wonder if they even really know.
