I have a 2016 DCSB with JBL. It's always been meh, but I've been consumed with other projects. But now, I'm having issues with my JBL since getting an Apple Watch, and it's time to upgrade.

I've got a new HU on the way for a replacement. I've also got a Clarion XC2410 lying around so I decided to go ahead and replace the speakers. Hoping to reuse my sub from my last car as well (hoping it fits), otherwise I'll probably get the Kicker Hideaway.

A couple questions that I've spent the weekend trying to find answers to, but can't:
    1. Are the tweeters a separate set of wires from the JBL amp or is it a series? Meaning, if I do a component, can I put the box near the amp and reuse all the wiring, or will I need to run new tweeter wire?

    2. Ideally, I don't want to (unless i need to) rerun speaker wire from my Clarion amp. Is there a clear diagram I can use to splice into the existing wiring at the amp? Or...even better, is there a wiring harness that goes makes it easier?

I'm also not sold on speakers yet. Kicker CS seem to be the choice for people not running a 4 channel amp, but I will have one. I've got sound deadening as well.

    1) tweeters ARE separate wires from the amp. If you get component speakers, you can just put your crossovers back at the amp location to keep things simple and close together

    2) check out the PAC aph-ty04
Haven’t looked into it too deep, but I’ve used it on other Toyota’s with JBL. See if it fits the taco

I don’t like the Kicker CS with an amp. Tweeters are way too harsh with decent power pushing them. The kicker KS are nice, and I really like the JBL gx608c for the price. Lots of other options too.

I'm glad you replied - I had a DM to you typed up and decided to just post instead. I'll def check out the KS/JBL. I'm hoping to place an order tonight from crutchfield and will get components for the front.

Is there a clear wiring diagram for the amp/speakers? I've seen some but nothing clear.

Sorry, just one more question @destin_meeks , is the input into the amp on the JBL some sort of CAN-BUS related digital input? Meaning, in order for me to tie into the component speakers back there, will I need to leave the amp in place to do that translation into analog? I looked over the diagram and couldn't see the standard inputs.

Yes, the amp input is digital. However, you don’t have to worry about the inputs if you’re replacing your radio AND adding a new amp AND not using the factory sub. You’ll run RCA cables from the new radio to the new amp, and run speaker wire from the new amp over to the existing JBL wiring (to get the new higher powered audio to your speaker locations)

The harness I mentioned above might let you do all this without any cutting/splicing of factory wiring, but I’d double check the vehicles that part works for just to be sure

Holy crap I'm an idiot. I knew that. I already plan on running RCA's for the sub. I'll just add a quad set for the speakers. Sorry I didn't think this through.

If you dont do this for a living, it's easy to overlook things like that. You get an idea in your head and try to make it make sense. I've been there a million times and once that happens, only a second person can pull your head out of the sand. Glad I can help! let me know of anything else you need!
