I'm guessing it's for corrosion issues down the road. What you said makes sense, but Op is probably trying to get ahead of the game on rust.

20190129_152514.jpg You can DIY like I did approx 16.00 per roll from Cabelas. Need 2 rolls. Still great after 18months.

None of the truckarmor appealed to me, but the faux carbon fibre from post #5 in this thread is the bomb.

Mud flaps should do the trick also possibly getting some of the sliders or steps with a closed top should work as previously mentioned.

Exactly for this reason. They use so much stupid salt on the roads in winter it’s more of a preventative measure I don’t really care about a few chips just don’t want the rust.

I’ve had mud flaps since new never thought of of using a set of sliders or closed top steps. Good idea!

The stock aluminum running boards have kept me pretty chip free. They work great against door dings too. Wish i could say the same for my grille.

How sturdy are these aluminum running boards. Can they take a hit?

They're sturdy enough to jump and bounce on, they're not sliders. If you wound up and swung your door into one as hard as you could, you'd fuck up your door pretty good and MAYBE scratch the coating that's on the runningboard.

I have those predator steps.and I wanted something straight and light but strong enough to take a hit.thier is very Little Rock or timber to crawl on here in south Texas. We do a lot of sand, dirt, and mud. If I found someone out here that would trade thier cast aluminum sliders for my predator steps. I would do it in a heartbeat.

I did just that. The predator steps were not all that great in my opinion. The aluminum ones take some getting used to for entry and exit but they work great and are much more Heavy duty than my predecessor steps were.

If you’re asking me, it’s holding up great. It’s been on 2 years now.
