    1980's and later?

Crap, that excludes Black Sabbath... at least anything that was really good from them.

    In no particular order:

    Nirvana
    Motorhead
    Metallica
    Pearl Jam
    Soundgarden
    Nine Inch Nails
    Rage Against the Machine
    Korn
    Pantera
    AC/DC

Never thought I'd see her name in here but, for at least a little while, she was influential. One of my girlfriends had a pink streak in her hair and wore outrageous blue eye shadow.

    RUSH, b/c they're [still] awesome.

NWA, b/c they were gangsta rap pioneers.

PHISH, b/c patchwork pants fell out of style for awhile, then PHISH brought them back.

WU-TANG, b/c of the Rza, the Gza, O.D.B., Ispectah Deck, U-g0d, the Ghostface Killah, and the Method Man.

U2, b/c Bono's "world awareness" provides material for South Park.

Radiohead, b/c when I can't understand the lyrics, it's easy to fill-in the rhythm with my own perverted phrases.

    awesome

This is a tough one. Trying to think of a band or person who truly influenced music not just "uh, they rock".

Afrika Bambaataa. Gave birth to what is now known as Hip Hop. Not that I am a huge hip hop fan but the man's influence on the world cannot be denied.

Trent Reznor. His musical talents are raw power. When Pretty Hate Machine came out it was like nothing else. Simply amazing stuff.

I am saddened by your deprivation:(

Look them up sometime. If you don't like the first song you like, listen to another. They've been out for quite some time, and their style has been different for every album. Their first "breakthrough" song was "down." Some personal favorites are "beautiful disaster," "large in the margin" "beyond the gray sky" and "strangers."

    Enjoy
