So like the title states im looking for ideas. I have two little boys two dogs me and my wife that all need to fit in the Tacoma. I made a trailer for the RTT and everything is working fine but i am looking for ideas on how i can drop the trailer and still fit everybody in just the truck. does anybody else have a family of similar size and could show me how you make it work with out a trailer?

Sounds like you need a basket on the roof and/or less dogs or less kids.

I have 2 kids in car seats and we end up fairly full without having to save space in the bed for 2 dogs. As a result, our longer camping trips usually involve leaving the kids with grandparents or taking our travel trailer.

what i really want is a drifter on a custom flat bed with tool boxes on the side and then goose gear interior with a bed for the boys to sleep on and then that is where the dogs go during transport and then dogs sleep in back seat at camp. i can see it in my mind just no $$$ to do it

How long are you out for? For a week long camping trip you should be able to fit everything for 4 people in the bed along with tools/recovery gear if you pack like you're playing Tetris. The biggest space killers for us when we don't have the trailer with us are the cooler along with our food and water.

And you are correct, a drifter would be a solid choice.

usually a week and its the dam dogs that take up all the space. trailer for now is working out just that much harder to explore. I have gotten in tight places just trying to find a camp with that dam thing back there. Easy if i know i have a turn around but when you dont backing up sucks.
