Sounds a lot like stories I and a lot of people down here could tell about Hurricane Katrina. What I impress on everyone since that day is IF you opt to stay put, you better have a plan to exist for thirty days without any outside help, supplies, or support. Food, water, fuel, ammo to last a month. That ought to be enough to get to the point things start to level out, or enough to ride out the disaster then evacuate afterwards.

I plan on re doing my CPR its been a long time and getting some wilderness and trauma training. My biggest take away from this accident on a major road on a weekend is that some times you are the only chance someone might have. After the first calls for help we were told to expect it to take 45+ minutes for any one to get to where we were. There was a core of about 12 people that had CPR to paramedic and trauma nurse training and police and fire that came to help from their personal vehicles. We did what we could but sadly he had major head trauma and massive blood loss. If I ever find myself in the same situation I want to make sure I can give the person a fighting chance.
