I have looked everywhere for more info and the only thing I can find is a old TW thread
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/hand-controls.403098/page-2#post-20811383

I am looking to install my own permanent hand controls on my '18 TRD OR. Can I simply unplug and unbolt my under dash airbag(like pictured in the old thread liked above) in order to install my controls? Will unplugging the airbag create a need for any reprogramming or set off a bunch of warning lights? Any help or information would be greatly appreciated!

I was afraid of that. So is there a way to get that resolved by myself or is it some crazy reprogramming process I would have to take the truck somewhere?

My best friend uses hand controls. I know it may be a little late for you, but he's always talked the dealerships into doing the install for him. Made them think it was their responsibility to provide it for him.

I would imagine there is probably a sensor you can bypass for that particular airbag, maybe a dummy plug you could put in its place. Sorry I don't think I helped at all

WARNING, this involves changes to your airbag system which may be dangerous, and cause the entire system to fail in a crash.

I don't know the exact resistance, but there is a 99% chance you can remove the airbag and wire approximately 2 ohm resistor across the 2 pins of the airbag connector. The ECU then wont know the airbag isnt there.

Disconnect the connector, apply resistor across the two pins.
Exact resistance isn't known, but guessing 2 ohm

Thanks for at least thinking through it. I'm not sure that would be the best route for me to take but it is an option. I know the controls I have are able to be installed on a 3rd gen I am just not sure of the safest way to get around the airbag issue.

Honestly that's not a bad idea. I can always ask them and see what they say. Thanks for your input.
