I apologize if this this subject had been discussed on here before but I haven't seen it if it has been. The first time I left my truck running and went back in the house, I wondered if it would still be running when I came back out not knowing what the range on the key transmitter might be.

I watched a guy on you tube start his Tacoma and then put the key in the garage, get back in the truck and drive away getting a few miles from home with no problem other than a light flashing on the dash and beeping every so often to let you know the key wasn't inside the vehicle.

This causes me to assume that once the truck is started and running, someone else could then get in and drive away and potentially drive until the truck runs out of gas as long as its not turned off with the pushbutton.

This seems like it could be a problem from a theft standpoint. I don't know if other manufacture vehicles work the same way with the pushbutton start but I would think there would be some kind of range or safety/anti-theft feature for this?

Any input or opinions? Am I missing something?

You are correct. Once started, it will run until shut off without the key. My Nissan is the same way.

    Plan accordingly. :)

Functioning as is its suppose to. If you’re going to walk away from a running truck, turn it off. Such as if you’re leaving your truck parked, lock it. Just because the doors are closed, does not mean don’t open it (to some people).

One time I dropped my parents off at the airport, it took me a while to realize the key was still in my dad's pocket.
When I have to leave my dog in the truck I'll open the driver's side window all the way, get out, shut the door, lock it, then auto close it. When I get back, I use the key to unlock it.
