I have a 2008 Tacoma Access Cab that has at least 3 gallons of diesel that i need to drain out of the gas tank. Iv tried to cyphin it out but figured their was a screen prohibiting me entry to the tank or possible that i wasnt doing it correctly. Im not sure if I have the mechanical assurance in myself to drop the gas tank in all so was trying to find an easier soft way... or would it be more damaging to try and run the diesel threw til it runs out of fuel completely and clean it with fuel injector cleaner?

Do not run it. Get the tank dropped and cleaned. If you dont think you can do it, tow it to a shop.

NO do not run the diesel through the engine, you'll mess it up and it'll be a lot more work to fix it than just dropping the tank to take the diesel out.

If you try running it and it manages to start up with what little gasoline is left in the system, the engine will stop once the diesel starts to go through it and you're going to have to get the fuel lines, rail and injectors removed by a shop so that they can properly clean out all of the diesel.

Dropping the tank is much easier but it sounds like you should have a shop do it so they can make sure it's completely cleaned out of the tank.

Have it towed to the shop, of course..if you go that route

I have to ask...how did diesel get put in there in the first place? I thought the diesel pumps usually have a different style pump that isn't designed to fit in gasoline vehicles.

Removing the bed is easier than dropping the tank. You have an access cab, so it's a pretty easy job.

There's a rollover valve that prevents a hose from going down the filler neck. Option 1: tow it to a garage. Option 2: If you can get help to get the bed up enough to get access to the pump assembly. Option 3: with the correct tool take the fuel line off at the engine and then electrically engage the fuel pump via the relay and pump out the tank. Lastly, there's always the option to put a small hole in the bottom of the tank and then seal the hole with a screw and fuel resistant gas tank sealant.

Now days with so many cars and Pick Ups using diesel the fuel nozzles are the same and on the same pump far to many complained about the large nozzles not fitting .

This happens all the time if they catch it quick enough a few gallons just fill with gas and go .Raises hand my other truck is diesel I manage to do this now and then

After all this is your Truck you do what you feel is correct .

We are waiting to hear just how you did this .

About the only real problem would be fouling out the spark plugs .

Be different if this was like number 6 bunker fuel.

Probably won't damage anything. The spark plugs will not get hot enough to ignite the diesel though. If you tried running it, it will just die and you would have to drain the tank, probably flush the lines then fill it with gas and it would be just fine.

Is there room for ten gallons of premium gasoline? I'd just run it. I dump my last year's premix boat fuel into my tank just about every year. I notice no change.

It comes down to just how this happened .

A 5 gallon can sitting around forever or at the pump .

If it was sitting I would worry more about dirt and water
