    2002 TACOMA DOUBLE CAB
Hi, My name is Julie. I own a fire engine red 2002 toyota tacoma double cab that I love. In May, I was the middle car in a freeway accident. The forerunner in back was going fast enough that I was impacted 2 times by it, and hit the car in front of me 2 more times as well. Their adjuster called me and left a message that it was a total loss. My daughter has a 1991 forerunner that is about to die. Is it worth buying the salvaged truck and fixing it for her? The frame is ok according to my mechanic. and I am getting ready to buy another tacoma for me. Not brand new, but newer used. Does anyone know how much dimensions of Tacoma double cabs have changed from year to year?

    Too few to list.
Hi Julie, welcome to the site. As far as I know, the dimensions of the 1st Generation Tacoma did not change from year to year although did change from generation to generation. (1995-2004, 2005-2015, 2016+)

Is it worth buying the totaled Tacoma? It all depends on what it looks like and how much the damage is. Keep in mind that the value will most likely be cut in half even after fixing and some insurance companies won't insure a rebuilt or salvage vehicle.

Welcome to our world. Tell you what:

Take pics like the previous poster said, take the pics to a body shop WITH all the info you can get on the damage, get a quote then take the quoted price and see if it comes close to what you could buy another older used one for. Body work is expensive. So is painting it. Not to mention, new bumpers, etc etc...and whatever else needs to be replaced.

There are 2 cost components of any car/truck project. One component is the cost of parts, the other component is the cost of labor. So can you get parts cheap? Can you get the labor cheap?

If you can get a deal on parts great, if not it’s starting to get expensive.

If you can get the labor cheap great. If you can do the work yourself you can save big bucks. If you have to pay someone the going rate ~$100 per hour its getting expensive again.

If you have to pay book value on parts and labor its probably not worth it; this is why the insurance totaled the vehicle.
