Totally agree. When the Japanese were at work teaching us Six Sigma and Kiazen that would be the kind of thing that would earn a gold star. You would have eliminated parts, weight, and cycle time.

Yes, mine is. I had never heard of it 'til this.

No wonder manuals are going out of style, they have no interest in making better any longer, just force us to autos

Yeah its a damn shame. You'll have to pry the shifter out of my cold dead hands before i give it up.

had to have been after year 2000 then. I can't speak for it evidently.

    BUT

I am sure depending on the fluid left in the brake system while pumping the clutch and brakes will empty both systems if there is a leak. Ever notice in the master cylinder the transfer of fluid in and out just from pumping the brakes? That fluid would then go right out the clutch system.

I had to look that up, laughs.

Yes, it's a good point. It does that.

However I'd rather redundancy in brakes not streamlining.

edit: I will say though I stop short of wanting a passenger side system.

I am pretty sure there's a baffle in the shared reservoir. When the fluid is at the full mark it submerges the baffle, but when the level gets lower the fluid from the brakes and clutch are separated. Not 100% on this, but for some reason it's sticking in my mind.

My 1st Gen was a 2000 V6 OR, maybe the V6 and 4 Cylinder were possibly set up different?

    I dunno, that's what I have also.

I have a master clutch cylinder. I know because I replaced it. Had to do it on my BIL's '97 4 cyl. also.

Sorry Op though, i've googled and searched for the procedure to R & R slave on a Contour and only got generic vids and instuctions.

My old 2008 had the shared reservoir also, but my 2015 and 2017 have separate, which I believe is due to having A-TRAC.

Saw this thread again while skimming for something else. Forgot all about it.

Front engine mount through-bolt was missing and the rear trans mount was toast. Fixed both and so far so good.

It’s good to have a little 4 cylinder again to be honest. It’s no gem, but it’s nice to have it for just buzzing around in.
