I’ve owned a total of four trucks, all have been two wheel drive.

Edit: Here’s a photo of my latest two wheel drive rig. No mods yet.

4x2 because i locked in my z71 4x4 3 times in 6 years and still spent $$$ replacing cv axles. Do i regret not having 4x4? sometimes. But im sure we all do at some point in time

thank you sir! i like them but my only complaint is that they arent wide enough to hold a 285 tire so i'm at my max tire size until i invest in some new wheels

I have only driven 2X4’s in forty years of owning Toyota trucks. I have never found a need or wished I had a 4X4.

I have the same wheels. I’m thinking about larger tires. What’s the max tire size for our wheels?

the largest by width is a 265/75r16 which is what im running. No trimming required on stock suspension and still a usable size with a 2" lift like me.. 255s will get you a 33" tire without rubbing but it's super skinny and personally i dont like the look. But lots of members are running both

My first truck was a 4x4 also, and I found that as much as I used it, the vast majority of trails didn't really need 4x4. A lot of 4x4 owners go into locked 4L the second they get out on the beach. A lot of them also go into 4h on a gravel country road or the first day of winter. (I'm not knocking the awesome capabilities of 4wd, I'm just saying a lot of people don't know the surprising capabilities of 2-wheelin'.) I used to be that guy. Then one day I thrashed my locking hubs and had to exit a sand pit in 2wd. It made me wonder about the situations where 4wd was an absolute requirement, and I realized that I didn't need it for what I was doing.

A decent set of grippy tires has been more than enough to get me in and out of the wilderness. Even that stupid eLSD mode has come in handy when climbing some hairy hills. I've been offered 4x4 on my last three trucks, and it wasn't even a matter of cost that factored in my decision. I just plain don't need it.

 im with you on this one! my very first truck was a single cab 2wd and because i was a teenager i drove off into some of the nastiest georgia red clay you could imagine and not once got stuck permanently. Granted, i took the smarter route when wheelin and didnt go head first into the mud pit if there was a half-dry path to be taken but still.. 2wd is still a capable offroad vehicle, it's just not a rock-crawling, pond-crossing kinda vehicle.

Pyramid Lake- one of my favorite winter escapes. I'm a neighbor from not far west. Would have missed months of work this winter without 4x4.
I may be wrong on this, but heard 4x4 is actually better for dirt roads, doesn't create that dreadful washboard.
You 4x2ers don't need to defend your decisions. We all taco owners, ain't got no hate. Photos on this post have been great, you guys are out there getting it done. Keep em coming

Thanks! Apparently so does Chevy because they continued to produce it alongside the new one. It's the "LD" trim. Last design?

I’m happy with my TRD Off Road, looks nice and less expensive in many ways. I would like to put a lift on it though.

    Check build thread!
Came here looking for lowered 3rd gens, was unfortunately disappointed. The most fun I've ever had was in my 2wd 01 F150, V6 truck. Just beat on the thing, never dies. Easy to work on too.
