While photographing this story for work, I had to drive through this incredible swarm of blind mosquitoes.

When they die they smell like dried dead fish, or aquarium fish food. Now I have that smell coming through my cabin air vents. I pressure washed all the bugs off the grill, radiator and engine bay. I think there may be some dead ones in the cabin air ducts.

I am assuming the cabin air intakes are under this grill that meets the windshield,

so I will go in there and vacuum first, then likely spray a disinfectant in there. Any advice on how to tackle it from the inside as well? Not sure the easiest way to access the air ducts from the inside. I would like to stick a vacuum hose into the ducts, and then spray with a disinfectant as well. Possibly through the cabin air filter compartment, but the vent near the drivers side pillar is the one that stinks the most, which is the farthest away from there.

Also, is the a/c evaporator in front of the radiator, as in this photo, or is it behind the firewall?

HA I know the exact smell you speak of. I always notice it in the summer after driving on the highway.

I'd check if the cabin air filter shows any signs of odor and swap it out, and if that doesn't work you can unbolt the plastic cowl at the base of the windshield and give the area underneath a cleaning.

Going to do both of those. Wondering if there’s an easy way to remove the vent Oliver’s to stick a vacuum hose up there?
