Soon after Discount tire opened a tire shop in my town I noticed there were plenty of empty parking spaces reserved for tire customers at the local Costco.

I quit purchasing tires at Costco 20yrs ago when they forgot to tighten the front lug nuts on my 85.

What in the heck is wrong with you? You were polite and courteous to the Costco employee. You were reasonable. You didn't freak and become a d*ck. Then, this takes the cake, you went to another shop and got what you needed PLUS great service. Why no jerk social media posts, or rants? really.

Too bad more people didn't behave like you! You sir deserve much respect from all!

Regarding buying new tires for my '16 RX350, when I consulted with the manager of the Costco tire shop in South San Francisco I told him I wanted to go from the stock 235-65R18s (30"diameter/9.3"width/6"sidewall) to OPTION1: 255-60R18 (same diameter/10"width/same sidewall) or OPTION2: 265-60R18 (30.5"diameter/10.4"width/6.3"sidewall).
He said the same exact thing about the 3% rule. So I guess option 2 is out. Now I have to see if the Lexus guys can give me what I want.
I know that Costco has been very strict about upsizing for years. They turned me down in '04 with my Tacoma when I wanted something two sizes up from stock.

Looking mighty good! And you won't lose too much power with that size tire either.

Seconded! Would like to find a good quality set of black lugs to use with my black wheels. The chrome lugs stick out like a sore thumb on black wheels.

Have similar experiences with them. Have bought a few sets of tires through them and they always take care of me. Even when I've brought in a vehicle to get a flat tire repaired that I didn't buy through them, they did it on the house.

I agree 100%. Out here they go by America’s Tire, but it’s the same company and same great service.

Here are the specific black lug nuts and the black TPMS valve stem covers I purchased to go along with my new wheel/tire setup. Both items were purchased off of Ebay.

I used to worry about that kind of stuff: matching black lug nuts with black wheels. But then after a couple rotations the black cover on the lug nuts started scratching and looked like shit.

I now just show off the bright, shiny chrome lug nuts through my matte black wheels.

I really like your setup. Something about the look of chrome lugs and white letters out on a nice white Taco.

Only once I decided on actually purchasing the wheels and tires (thank you to the many TW members who shared their setup), I figured given the blatant insubordination to my more frugal sensibilities that I might as well go the full flippin’ nine and wholly commit to my (speaking only for myself here folks) mid-life crisis when it came to the nice but definitely not necessary black Gorilla lug set and matching TPMS stem covers...

I had no idea they had that 3% rule. My local Costco installed the same set up. As mentioned earlier, you should’ve tried the next local Costco...their warranty is pretty good. 0C96EEC2-972D-4514-BFF7-05B0C48CB6B5.jpg

    A few.
Costco has been doing that for years. Its a company policy. One way around it is to haul your wheels/tires in tsken off the truck if u can. Then they will do it.
