Like many of you that have a Bakflip MX4, mine was was leaking. It's only a few months old, so I though I would make one strong attempt at fixing it, and then live with the results whatever they may be. Well, I made the changes on Saturday, and it absolutely poured rain while I was driving on Sunday, and it was DRY! No guarantees here, but thought I would pass this on because it worked well for me. If you try it, good luck!

    1. You can see the underside of the rail and how the factory seal had come unglued and move off a straight line. Same thing happened on the other side. You can almost tell it's very thin rubber that doesn't really collapse down very well.

    2. After looking at a lot of options, I went with this weatherstrip from Home Depot as a replacement for both rails.
    IMG_2721.jpg

    IMG_2724.jpg

    3. Even caulked the small seam on the top of the rail.
    InkedIMG_2739_LI.jpg

    4. Even the drain plug alignment was offset on both sides. The drain is approx an inch in diameter and being offset it was only able to accept about 1/3 of the volume it was designed to manage.
    IMG_2726.jpg

    5. Drilled both sides to open it up.
    IMG_2733.jpg

    6. I also put an inch or so of the new weatherstrip at the top left and right corners where the rails meet the bed.

    7. Lastly, I installed the following on my tailgate.

I'll work on it..... Eventually. Has a nice tone to it. Definitely better than a leaking one. It won't be annoying while towing at 4k rpm in the ADK.

Kind of a lot of waiting and somewhat labor extensive. Not the first time I cracked open headlights, would I do it again? Nope, I’d just buy aftermarket and make sure it’s sealed.

Sanded off the rust and repainted my nerf bars. I didn’t even bother to take them off because I know the rusted bolts would have snapped in the frame. A bit of a PIA but they look good as new!

Pulled my radio so I can try my hand at making a bracket for the GPS/XM antennas.
I was curious as to why my passenger seat belt indicator doesn't come on (new hazard switch assy.). I'm not sure it worked when I bought the truck.
I did a quick diag. and ordered a new passenger buckle. Hopefully it will come in tomorrow.
