2 AllPro Expo Springs, 2 Sources.

Found 2 guys with one spring each, one looks new, the other has about 20k on it. Thinking of putting them together. Heard it can be problematic.

I called AllPro and of course they don't recommend it but the guy gave me some pointers on making sure they are the same manufacturer as they used more than one in the past and he was definitely against mixing manufacturers. Said to look at the pins and place one on top of the other to make sure each spring in the pack was the same length.

Anybody have direct experience with this? Did it work or fail?

my first question is why? at the cost of buying two sets that puts you at the cost one a single new set

 

I'm not buying 2 complete sets. I'm buying a single side from 2 people to make one pair of springs.

 

And I thought this might be a to post this question.

 

Go for it if they r the same and put the new one on the driver side and the old one in the passenger. Worse Case you end up having to order another new leaf pack.

 

It's less than half price, a new set runs about $600 plus shipping. Sagging could be a problem but then the question becomes when would that occur enough to be a concern? At a 5k mile difference or at 50k?

 

So I'm going through with the purchase. As I have other things to consider and buy (shocks, extended brake lines, etc) it may be awhile before I install them. Any suggestions are welcome.

 

as long as they look to be from the same manufacturer I don't really see why not. My only hangup would be the potential mileage of one versus the other...20k might not sound like much but 20k of carrying heavy loads across offroad terrain is still pretty substantial, and that particular side could sag more than the other or wear out faster.
