Hello everyone my name is zach and i finally decided to join after lurking in the shadows for a little while in order to get some help. To make a long story short i am getting rid of my 2018 honda civic and have my heart set on a tacoma. My main desire here is to save a little money by being able to get rid of my car payment and enabling myself to have a more equipped vehicle to handle the off-road/boondock camping i so love but in order to do this im looking at trucks that are a little older. I have mostly been looking at trucks around the 07-10 year range but an 01 here in town just popped up and has me intrigued because it has everything ive been looking for in my tacoma, manual transmission, V6, 4x4 and fairly low miles. Now where i need help is will the 1st gen tacoma be enough to take me on my adventures into the wilderness with a light truck bed camper or am i better off going to the 2nd gen to get a newer and from what ive read a better built truck. Of course i am plenty open to modding this truck especially at its price point but i dont want to end up buying a whole new truck with what it costs to accomplish that. All help is appreciated and sorry if this has been dragged out.

    Welcome to TacomaWorld!

The first gen will do everything you mentioned just fine. Just make sure the frame is good on any truck you’re considering.

Rather than trying to put a Camper on go with the Roof Top Tent and really get off road camping at the best!

I miss my 1st gen. It had a shell, carpeted, plush comfortable interior, stereo, and AT tires. It never failed me and I wish I still had it. Welcome to TW. Good luck with your search.
