This is on my short list of things to do. Curious to see what you’re going to do.

Here's a teaser. This'll plug into the back of the head unit. Nobody's shenanigans are safe anymore...well no one in front of me.

Nice! I have been thinking about getting dash cam. I had a lady run into my work truck and try to say it was my fault back in February. The whole thing was caught by a city street cam so..... takes most of the BS out of the equation.

Probably won't finish the install today but hope to at least get the headunit installed and maestro programmed.

It's alive. Kenwood DNX996XR. It was a bitch to get everything to fit. I still have some trimming to do to fit the bezel on with the hazard button, clock, & airbag light.

Need to see how to program what wheel is is what location. The tire that it is reporting low is the spare.0B9E989E-066F-4F42-A9E4-775FA36D09C9.jpg

The backup camera has gridlines now...stock cam but the JBL system never displayed them.2C3EE571-4286-41B8-AAD5-4EEE06929059.jpg

Messed around with AirPlay, navigation, and the settings a bit but it's going to take some time to figure everything out. I want to try to play a dvd and see if I need to ground the parking brake sensor wire before I wrap everything up.

Have to pull it and move some stuff around. There isn't much room back there for the wiring harness. It is sitting a bit crooked at the moment because of whatever it's hung up on.

    4CB47CA6-6F87-4EE5-A8F3-5502535C8787.jpg

Everything else is done. Ran the wiring for the dash cam and microphone up to the rear view mirror and have been working through the settings. There is a lot that this can do so it's going to take some time.

I was able to get the button color to match the interior lights last night with a custom color setting and I've played with the sound settings (which makes me want to get an amp that'll run 2 channels and a sub and ditch the factory sub).

I'm just figuring out how to navigate the songs on the USB drive. One usb plug is run to the factory location and I think I'm going to run the second to the coin tray on the right of the steering wheel (where the ebrake is in the manual).

A few things I'd like to figure out are:
    - how to turn off automatic display on the dash cam (pops up automatically when I'm slowing at a stop sign/light or turning into a parking lot)
    - how to add a custom background image
    - if I can upload topo maps to the Garmin nav
    - if I can navigate using gps coordinates
    - can it auto connect apple play
    - if I can review dash cam videos on the headunit without pulling the sd card from the dash cam and putting it into the stereo (the dash cam is wired to it so it seems like this should work somehow)

New to Taco World and yours is the first post I pulled up and I started with the first post. Quite an inspiring “read”! So glad your Fights going well! (From another survivor, just finished 2 year scan clean from throat cancer)... Love your attitude and loved reading about your build! I’m a 3 week owner of my first Tacoma and you’ve given me lots of ideas! I’m not the technician you are, but I love functional gadgets.. prolly gonna do a similar suspension and tires/wheels, and go crazy with all the led mods you made. Thanks for the tips. Fight on!!

This video suggests you can review dashcam video on the unit. I'm trying to figure out if this unit will display navigation info in my dash display on my 2017.

No more soggy cooler food. A lot of printing on the cover which isn't my style but he price was right.

Upcoming projects that I'm in the research phase for are:
    1. Build internal cage to help support the weight of the rack on the Leer shell.
    2. Wrap the roof and top of the shell. I'm planning to DIY but need to figure out where to order the wrap and what color to go with (want to go light to reflect some heat...not sure how light...maybe see if I can match the light grey on the TRD decal).
    3. Install iKamper X-Cover RTT (late July early August delivery hopefully).
    4. Shower (probably going DIY pressurized ABS but not positive...the setup Costco is selling is tempting)
    5. 2nd battery and solar (need to decide if the solar is going to be fixed to the vehicle or a panel that I can deploy in the sun as needed)

I did a pretty basic under the canopy support rack a while back, anchored my crossbar feet to it through the cap. It’s super strong.

On Saturday I'll be 1 year out from my second HIPEC treatment at UCSD so I've been doing a lot of reflecting on where I've been in the past 12 months and also the nearly 8 years now since my original diagnosis.

When I was in the early days of recovery after my last surgery and chemo one of our favorite areas to camp was burning. I just got home Monday from 10 days camping there with the family and had a chance to explore the burn area for the first time. As much as it sucks to see the forest burned, I have to remind myself that it is just part of the natural cycle. As we were driving through there was evidence of new growth everywhere, but just a year out from the fire, it is clear that the healing process will be a long one.

I spent some time in the charred forest reflecting on my recovery from surgery and chemo just a year ago and it was somewhat comforting knowing that even though I'm not the same physically as I was before diagnosis, the healing will continue for many years, just like the forest after a fire.

I think I got someone else's RTT

The x-cover is supposed to be silver but it's black and it's missing the accessories I paid for. The whole preorder process hasn't really been the best experience. I'm hopeful that iKamper can resolve this. Easiest solution is probably going to be to refund a few hundred to cover the cost of a wrap so I can go with a lighter color and ship the accessories I ordered.

I only spent a few minutes checking it out and the sun was setting so I'm going to hold off on a detailed review but the mounts seem stout and it is quick to deploy and pack up. I'll get out for some camping in the next couple of weeks and report back in more detail on the tent quality.

After some back and forth emails regarding the color and missing accessories I was basically told tough on the color mix up but they are shipping out the rest of my order and apologized for that. Unfortunately they didn't expedite the shipping on the missed accessories so delivery isn't expected on that for another week.
