I liked the softex, red stitching was a nice touch. The cloth in most modern vehicles looks like garbage. I didnt like any cloth options. 4runner sold a couple days ago. I rather have a fuel efficient wagon than a 40k grocery getter.

Btw, changing the oil is the biggest PITA ever. You’ll need to buy a special tool to do it.

I had a 13 Taco and it was literally the easiest oil change I have ever done. On my 16 Taco it's a pain in the ass with dropping the skid plate and then the cartridge. I imagine the 4runner being the same. I do love the seats there very comfortable and the red stitching does look really sharp.Do you know of a good cleaner/protection for the softex? Thanks for the info. What did you replace the 4runner with?

They mount the canister filter upside down and it has an external o-ring that has to somehow magically stay in place. Filter includes a one-time use plastic dongle to drain the canister.

Link to the tool we bought:
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015PK3AG/ref=cm_sw_r_oth_api_i_yODFCbY2VNX73

    Per other half:
    Feedback after changing...
Remove drain plug, then insert plastic drain from filter kit to drain filter housing. Will remove o-ring when removed.
Tool will be needed to unthread the cap all the way
Would knock cap out of tool, then reinstall drain plug with new oring before re-installing cap.

In regards to softex, I just cleaned with wet microfiber.

    I haven’t disclosed what I bought. Probably won’t. Lol.

I got this brand new 18 ORP non-KDSS with the moonroof last July for 36 OTD. Like others said, if the price was that close, just go with the new one

I came to a halt in my want for a 4Runner. An extremely bland interior (same as my 2011 SR5), leather seats and the low powered blower fan just killed it for my honestly. I’ll be keeping the taco until they update the 4Runner, but I don’t know if I’ll ever want to have TSS. Might have to settle for a 19’ at some point.

I did get one offered for $34,500 for an OR, brand spanning new, but not having a sunroof is a deal breaker.

coming from an 06 accord, that was a huge upgrade LOL. This is more of personal preference but the simpler the better for me. I bought it because of its interior simple design and not a lot of "techs". All I needed was a backup camera and Bluetooth for music. If you don't like the leather, you can get the cloth ones. If I am not mistaken, only the PRO and OR PREM offer the softex on the 5th Gen.

Also, I am now in the market for a 13-15 Tacoma, and once again the simplicity of the interior is a huge factor. The less electronics the better

With the new ones you can only get a sunroof if you get leather, and not having a sunroof is a deal breaker for me:( the Tacoma’s is pretty simple too. It’s jusy crazy that I’d be paying close to 40k for something that’s virtually the same as the 2011 i had:oops:

you must be a guy who travels a lot or camping type a person hah. I originally thought I would use the sunroof a lot but I really have not used it much at all haha. Probably once so far lol. If you are big guy, the non-sunroof will get you a bit more head clearance.

On the side note, how is the 17 Taco serving you? Are you having any problems like the 3rd brake light leak, rear diff leak, gear hunting... like lots of other 16-17 owners are dealing with?

I just love opening up the sunroof on a nice sunny day and having all windows open, gives it a very open feeling. I thought i wouldn’t miss it in my Tacoma but I do, although I don’t regret not getting it as the Tacoma’s are a little more cramped I feel like than the 4Runner. And it’s been great. Two years, 35k miles and I haven’t had a single issue with it. They did the Blower motor fan recall on it but that’s been about it, I haven’t had any of the other issues other people have. I will say the transmission shifts a little more than my 4runner did, but it isn’t horrible. Ever since they did a software update on the transmission it’s really improved, although I did enjoy it before. I love how it drives and handles, I really have no complaints. And it’s nice to throw whatever in the bed and not worry about getting anything dirty and what not.

You could probably trade seats with another member here and get some cash out of the deal if you end up getting the premium, don't know if you thought about that.

Hmm, actually never thought about that haha. Good point! I may revisit it. I just spent $1000 and bought an extended warranty for my truck, but it’s refundable it’ll just be pro rated.

3%, that's a joke. I'm in NY and its 8%. So you payed 34,900 for a TRD Off road premium with sunroof. I'm having a hard time believing that when invoice is around 36,500. Just saying if you did that's a great deal but I'm still having a hard time believing it. 1700 bucks below invoice , they cant make any money and there losing for that price. How much total did you get off of sticker? TIA.

It’ll have to double check but I’m 99% sure it was in Mexico.

He did get the non KDSS, not sure how much it would drop by but i can see it. At the end of the day or end of the month is a prime time to shop. I had a 4Runner OR with an MSRP $39,494 offered to me for $34,494:notsure:

come to the southwest haha. They are going to raise the auto sales tax to 3.5% starting July 1st though. I had the non KDSS which was cheaper around 1k7-1k9 cheaper? The dealer said I was the only customer looking for the non-KDSS on a PREM. I can't remember the sticker price cuz I was looking at too many of them
