So over the last couple days our 17 TRD Sport Crew Cab has developed a maddening rattle/noise behind the rear drivers side seat? Almost sounds like its coming right from the corner of the cab. Thought it could even be the bed but shook the heck out of everything back there and it was tight. Are there any cables, etc.. running through the corner area of the cab behind the rear seat? I've not disassembled anything yet but it does look like there's possible some wiring or mechanics in this area for the sliding rear window? Might be scheduling our first warranty/service appointment if I can't nail it down....

Make sure your seat backs are fully locked in place.

+1 on the jack or something in the storage - that has got me on my other vehicle. I did catch the seatbelt flapping and driving me nuts a few days ago on the taco. I like the little clips to retain it when the windows are down. Would start there.

Kings, 275/70/17, a few custom items, lots of Meso mods.
Only things in the rear corners in the very back are seat belts, some wires and sunroof drains if you have one. Only thing behind the very back panels behind rear seats is the auto rear sliding window motor and cable. Check all seat bolts including front seats. Check all seat belts and seat belt bolt under the seats in the floor. And as others mentioned the jack. One last thing is chech rear head rests as they pivot.

Check that the seatbelt is in the little hook on the side of the back seat.

Ever find out what it was? Recently purchased a Tacoma and I hear something sliding back and forth underneath rear passenger seat. Driving me crazy. I lifted carpet and found nothing.

I had a similar rattle. It turned out to be the rear seat backrest wasn’t fully locked in place.

I’ve had this rattle before and I found out that it was the seatbelt not being tucked under the clip as a few others have said. Good luck.

It’s not quite a rattle. I’ve removed everything, including the jack and still hear it. I had someone drive while I sat in back and I can literally feel it slide/move underneath my feet. You hear the sound when weight shifts (braking, turns, acceleration).

So, I had a similar problem. Open the bench portion of the seats. You’ll see the separation between driver and passenger sides (in the middle). Note the passenger side wall toward the door. It looks like one piece, solid. In fact, it’s NOT. In my case, the lug adapter for the jack fell out of the packet into the plastic well. It then (somehow) wormed it’s way around to a small opening in the side of the passenger well, and got into the space between. For the next 3 months, I could hear it rattling around. I took everything out, just as others described. NOTHING in the well. Sound still there. It wasn’t until I stuck my head down inside the well and looked carefully that I realized there was a small opening in the well wall. Very hard to see, but it was there. That STUPID lug adaptor was in the space between. It rolled back in a ways and then LIVED there. One day I pulled over, opened the bench, and just happened to see the end of it sticking out. Grabbed it and snatched it out. Problem solved, no more sound. But for 3 months, IT DROVE ME CRAZY!

Bingo!!! That was my problem exactly. Been driving me lug nuts since i had my tires rotated. Your post reminded of that locking lug nut adapter! They did not put it back in the package securely and it fell out off roading on the beach. Aside from the rolling rattle i would have been up the creek if i ever needed to pull a tire off.
    Thank you for your post!
