I had a new Mustang get beat to hell in the early '80s. Knocked out 2 windows it was so bad. I'll never forget how green the sky was that day as long as I live. Hurricanes, some small tornados, floods. That hailstorm was the scariest, I thought I was going to either blow away or be killed by a sky rock. Oh yeah, I was in the Whittier Earthquake in '87 too. That was nothin' compared.

Damn, I'm bad luck weather wise. Don't invite me golfing.

I've been able to get by since, nowadays, I have a choice whether I take my truck out on potentially bad weather days. The forecasting here is also really good so that you'll know if an area is getting hit by specific size hail.

But if I spent my days driving around, I'd have 2 of those in the back seat just in case one failed.

That is actually a cool device, although a bit of a PTIA to put on.

Yeah does look a little cumbersome but what’s worse?? Certainly
Wouldn’t want to try to install as the storms hitting. I imaging you guys who live in areas that a prone to severe weather have pretty good forecasts and alert systems. Looks like it would help for door dings too. Too bad there’s no alert system warning that “inconsiderate aholes are approaching”.

It's always something though. Whatever you didn't prepare for is what bites you.

Yesterday areas near me flash flooded. You can opt out of driving into it easy enough. (i ain't showing off) but going in somewhere and water rising to you is hard to avoid.

I want to get one of those inflatable bubbles to put over my truck during storms. I don’t want to take any chances in having my baby damaged by hail.

This is so true. My neighborhood flooded mildly Monday night, water was enough to submerge one of my wheel spokes while the truck was parked in my driveway.

Well. My truck is pretty bad. Got hit with some softball size hail in a hailstorm a few years ago. Insurance totaled the truck and I bought it at auction as my first vehicle when I was 15. I’ll have to post more pics sometime. All of my pics focus around hiding the damage. Fuck hail.

This first pic shows the largest hail dents i have above the doors.

    That's a bad one alright.

With vehicles getting so expensive it seems like appearance innovations are in order. Who wants to keep paying for a vehicle that looks BAD and really can not be fixed correctly. (roof and bondo ain't my idea of correct).

With as thin of sheet metal as they use (and aluminum in my experience is just going to be worse) why NOT go urethane? I mean, there's lots of metal underneath. Ever seen a Fiero skinned?

    Interesting...

Seeing you got your Tacoma at a discount through the auction, you might feel differently?

I would think a Tacoma damaged and totaled by hail would be the least risky type of totaled Tacoma to get...

But then again, I have no experience with hail damage or buying a totaled one at auction...

Hail damage is really the least risky salvage title to buy. You know what you’re getting. There isn’t hidden damage. Personally, I dont care for the damage anymore, you don’t even notice it tbh. If you think about it, buying a collision car needs a lot of work with possible severe frame damage. A hail damage car is just cosmetic. My truck has a perfect interior and the engine is perfect as well, with a great service history. I paid a little under 11k OTD in cash. I’m very happy with my purchase.

Yup, glass too. Again, it’s all known and ‘acceptable’ when buying it at auction. Unlike other totaling situations.

Not meaning to thread jack though :hattip:

It really depends on if your going to fix it or run it as a 'beater'.

My Mustang (first new car, was going to be forever, urk) was fixed by a average body shop, Just get it back out the door. It was a nightmare and the car rusted away to scrap by I think...early '90s. I sold it in '87, tired of the paint and rust issues. Mustangs of that era had rust issues to begin with though. It was a '82.
