    Hey all!

New to the forum and just purchased a 2019 AC 4X4 TRD Pro in Cement. So, so excited for the truck and to get it out and to start having fun with it.

One question I have I haven’t quite been able to figure out from searching:

The truck I bought comes with a factory OEM tonneau cover installed. I will be investing in a Leer 180 (or something similr) topper very shortly, so do not have much a need for this. My plan is to remove the cover and sell the cover.

My question to the forum is is there anything that may be a hiccup in this plan? Structurally, was the truck altered in any way to prevent me from just swapping this out with a Leer 180 on top? I’m mostly wanting to make sure that this isn’t going to prevent me from having a leakproof topper due to some hole that’s been drilled to install the tonneau cover.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

If you are not in a big hurry, sell the cover first with a bed rail swap. The bed rails get cut to accommodate the hardware/pins. If you don't swap then you will have cut rails for no reason and the new owner of the cover will have to cut his rails.
Other than that, should be fine.

I'm in Portland, OR. SO I will need to cut new bed rails once I sell the cover and put on the topper?

No. We are suggesting you sell the cover and swap bed rails with buyer and then put your cap.

You get the uncut rails from the buyer, he gets your cut rails. Now you have a truck that looks as if it never had a cover, and the buyer does not have to do anything special because the cuts are already there.

Gotcha gotcha. That makes a lot of sense. So if I didn't do that, I would have unnecessarily cut rails that might cause a leak?

I wouldn't say it might cause a leak due to where the cuts are, but it would make things easier for all parties involved. And doing it that way, it would just look better on your truck, especially if you ever removed the topper.

Nice, this was all very useful information. Thanks for all of this. Much appreciated.

It sounds like once uncut bedrails are on the truck in place of the cut rails it will be just as it is if there were no tonneau cover installed?

I wished I would have sold my Tonneau cover before installing my camper shell. Had to cut the bed rails. but never had an issue with leaking.
