before i make this purchase (RC62F), is it possible to change out the hurst stick on this unit? i like the look of this, but i dont like the height of this badboy. coming in at 15" thats just way too tall for my preference. i do see core showing some sticks for sale, but only one listing comes at an acceptable length for my driving style, which is listed for a ford mustang application (0050). im guessing it will fit cause its only two bolts, and finding a new shift knob with the correct thread pattern advance.

The shifter maintains roughly the same height as stock.

Would there be a way to bring the collar up to the knob? I don't like the look of the metal stick but wish I had another choice than URD for the SS.

Still sits 1" higher than stock tho, I think it's already high enough as it is.

bbrown: thanks it looks awesome! i love the positive engagement and the nullification of all that slop when you get one installed. i also like that short shifter also tend to be shorter in height over stock. i guess thats the look that im going for. they have one stick they offer coming in a whopping 5"! i think ill just buy it and switch it out since its only 40 bucks. ill keep you updated.

EDIT: alright. ordered it. keep you guys posted on using the new hurst stick. it comes in black so its more discreet.

I think you can move the rubber grommet that holds the boot up closer to the shift knob for a more OEM look. The grommet that is supplied is more oval shaped to fit better lower down on the HURST stick, but I imagine a more traditional grommet with a cylindrical shape would work better for mounting the boot closer to the knob.

As for height, its really not noticeably different. Core-Shifters sent me a new bracket to try that will bring the setup slightly closer to the driver (changes the angle of the shifter a few degrees). This should also slightly lower the shifter height. Life has been super busy lately, so I haven't had time to mess with it. I'll report back as soon as I do install it.

I'm interested to see the shorter stick. I fear it may be really short. The base of the shifter sits an inch or two below the console, so you may not have a whole lot sticking up. Keep us posted. :burnrubber:

edit: @Xer0 SiN - I didn't realize you have a second gen. The shift stick height/options could be totally different.

Ok.... just scored a Core shifter from another member.

Can you tell if this is the first or second design bracket? Different angle but looks the same as your picture.
Just curious, going to give it a shot and go from there.

It's pretty hard to say, but I think you have the old style bracket. Did you request the new one? Here is the only picture of the brackets that I took and its not a very good one at that...

Old on the left and new on the right:

I finally installed the new bracket on mine. It lowers the shifter and makes things feel a little more natural for me. The shifter sits where my arm naturally rests when I put it down. I don't feel like I'm reaching like I did before.

Think your right, looks like the first design. Does the new bracket tilt the shifter toward the driver, or just back more.
I picked this up from a member that didn’t install it, he was unsure if it was first or second design.
    I’ll send Core a email.

It’s lower and angled more towards the driver.

Do you have a picture of all of your shifters? Does that core shifter help not get in the way of your j shift FJ case?
II'm working on getting a dual case setup from Marlin for my m/t 2016 Tacoma and I will be installing the FJ t-case at the same time, so I will have the same amount of shifter as you. I figured with the reduced side to side and throw with the core shifter it would really help out clearing the FJ shifter. Thanks man!

I feel like the arm needs a slight curve to it. It looks kinda goofy being straight. I loved mine in an old ranger I had but the look of this one just seems so out of place

Posted this over in the MT thread.

Scored a new Core short shifter from a member. Installed today, this is a seriously sweet setup. Front to back and side to side movement is the perfect distance IMO. The first to second shift was a slight annoyance to me with the stock setup. Especially in traffic with the short first gear/wonky factory tune. No more, 1/2 is quick without abusing the transmission.
More noise is transmitted through the solid mounted stick, You can hear the syncros working and some gear whine :burnrubber:
Some may consider this a drawback, if you’ve driven older manuals your used to it. Doesn’t bother me one bit.

Now I need to figure out how to mount my @7r41lbr34k3r shift knob.

Still using his Delrin boot ring and a couple of rubber grommets.

Alright folks found a easy solution for the @7r41lbr34k3r shift knob on the Core/Hurst shifter.

    Looked around for a few days for a 3/8 16 to 12 x 1.25 adapter, nothing.
So I planned on machining out the knob rethreading and installing a time sert, really didn’t want to go this route.
In searching for the Hurst thread size to double check before ordering the time sert this popped up.

Wait...what... all the searching why didn’t this come up before? Whatever who cares. Ordered from Summit. Turns out 2004 and up Mustangs have the 12 x 1.25 thread and have the same issue when using a Hurst shifter.

    Oh yeah, back in action!
    Even better than before

I want that shift kit but I’m scared of how difficult the install is.... also is there a zerk fitting on the base? I see something coming off the base on the core website
