Should I buy out my 2017 Tacoma or star a new lease with a 2019 or 2020

But lane assist worthless on roads with no lanes/lines. The added cost is my biggest gripe.

I have yet to see this technology applied to law enforcement vehicles, and doubt that it will.

I have a 2019 and I came from a 2001 P.O.S. No lane assist, no TPMS, no brake assist, etc until now. The first month I had these new features, I was blown away, however now it doesn't matter to me much. If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't upgrade and I would pay to outright own your Tacoma. You pay it off in time, and then trade it in for a newer model if you chose.

Also your situation is very dependent upon your finances. I am trying to be objective about your question here, but in my opinion leasing a vehicle is the worst choice you could make. You effectively are paying the depreciation on the vehicle. The only benefit here is that our trucks typically are one of the slowest depreciating trucks, so leasing isn't THAT bad. Still not good. Only reason I would lease a vehicle would be if money didn't matter and I wanted the newest vehicle every year.

Hope this gives you some more color to your decision.

Honestly, I'd just do a pure economic decision. If your truck is worth more than buy out, buy it. If not, don't.

You can always ask for a 6 month extension, figure out new terms. And wait for the 2020.
Its a contract between two consenting parties, pretty much anything can be done. But they probably won't do it lol. The worst that can happen is they say no.

As far as the differences, lane assist is worthless (it's an alert, not an assist like the f150, which is awesome), but radar cruise is amazeballz (I live near Seattle).

Before buying my '19, I've test driven an' 18, an early '19 (rented for a 10+hr trip) and my '19. Whatever Toyota doing with programming the engine/transmission, it's working. Each one has gotten noticeably better.

If resale is your biggest concern down the road, you should upgrade to a 4x4. If you look at all the 1st gens and 2nd gens out there, the 4x4s fetch significantly more money and are more desirable on the used market than 2x4s.

Other than that, a lot of people on here have already said it. If you like the truck and want to keep it, and the truck is worth more than the buyout on blue book, then buy it. If you really want the new features and can afford it, do that. It really comes down to a you decision. There are so many factors we don't know that could contribute to making the "right" decision.

    That’s the theory at least.

The reality is people increasingly want to be on their mobile devices and decreasingly driving, particularly in traffic. And most will happily adopt any technology that will allow their brains to make the switch, even if they are already at the wheel.

Had a 2019 rental when my 2017 was in the shop, I absolutely hated the radar /lane assist features. Plus that’s just extra stuff to break in the near future. 17 has everything you need.

If it were up to me I’d keep the 17 until Gen 4 comes out in 2022 or 2024.

One poster here said he was going from a 16 SR5 to a new 19 TRD for $3900 and I thought that was great . No miles , new truck and warranty .

It’d probably be cheaper and better to buy the 17

The truck often needs to remind you to stay in your lane?

The thing beeps even if you get too close to the dividing line.

If you are on a windy road, the thing will beep until you puke.

My "BRAKE" notice came on today and made an alarm when there was literally nothing in front of me.

    Keep your truck.

I have only turned on lane assist once, to try it. Once you turn it off, it remains off. It is not an issue at all. IMHO, radar cruise is great. I use it all the time. I don’t think lane assist is worth anything, but you can ignore it, just like the extra cup holders.

Vehicles aren’t an investment. It is like anything else one chooses to spend their disposable income on.

My layman's take on a lease is that you pay a higher interest rate vs car loan but get a significantly lower payment because you are not financing the entire purchase. So it is a way of driving a car or truck that you can't really afford.

I will be running into the end of lease on my 17 in March as well. I wasnt sure what I was going to do until a couple months ago. I decided to buy my 17. The newer features dont seem to be worth it to me. Having a low mile and known history vehicle sounds like the better deal to me. Plus Inferno color is no longer available and I very much enjoy having it. Id recommend buying and waiting for the actual new gen Tacos to come out
