why are you snapping back at one guy without enough miles but yet praising the next one that is 90k short of your thread rules? Are you a moderator? This is a forum thread. Anyone can comment on it. If you don't like it, ignore it then. #internet

still haven't seen ONE gen2 taco owner chime in with over 250k miles following an OCI schedule over 5k
rather numerous owners that follow the 5k OCI (with odo pics for proof, thanks) with over a 1/4 million+ miles successfully

real life truth, 1st hand info....
    amazing

    2009 DCSB SR5 with V6 4.0L with 270K miles.

Has had Mobil 1 5W-30 its entire life at 5K oil change intervals. I think I've done 7500K oil change intervals only twice.

I've been sending in oil samples to Blackstone labs about once a year just to check on engine health and everything is good. I drive my truck very hard from towing, heavy loaded, and long distances, and 5K intervals were recommended with the OEM and Puralator standard size filters, but once I switched to a Mobil 1 oversized filter, Blackstone say I can go 7500K-10K oil change intervals, but I would rather have the piece of mind with 5K intervals.

Oil filter is random. Basically what ever is a quality filter available at walmart. I did the Toyota OEM filter for a while, then that got to be a hassle going to the dealership or getting upcharged online. I did puralator from walmart until walmart stopped carrying them. Now I do the oversized Mobil 1 EP filter and its been nice seeing a bit of a difference with the extra filter media with the oversized filter. Yes, I'm paying $11 for a filter, but I like the knowledge that its keeping my oil a bit cleaner for longer than a standard size filter did.

For oil, I run Mobil 1 5W-30 extended performance, and if that's not available I do basic full synthetic. I used the high mileage full synthetic for a while, but one trip I did an oil change using the high mileage full synthetic the night before and I got some pretty worrisome engine growl on some uphill highway climbs. Sent a sample to Blackstone at 5K miles after that trip and everything looked good, but I'm not using that oil type (high mileage) anymore.

Transmission: Drain & Fill every 50K. I did it at the dealership until 250K miles, and now I DIY. I'll be dropping the pan and replacing that internal screen at 300K. I do watch the trans temp via my scangauge when I tow or am loaded. I back off the power once trans temps get to 210 F

Cooling system: System Flush every 100K

    Serpentine Belt: Every 100K

Gear Oil: 75W-90 every 30K. Redline 75W-90 is the best I've used. I've tried Valvoline dyno, Lucas Oil dyno, Mobil 1 FS, Royal Purpal FS, and my butt dyno tells me Redline keeps the drive train spinning the most freely as well when the diff oil is changed, Redline has looked and smelt the cleanest out of the bunch I've tried previously.

    Sparkplugs: Every 30k

I pretty much stick to OEM recommended service intervals and its been treating me well. Schedule maintenance or maintenance will schedule itself.

Ive read this thread before, pretty cool stuff

if you read this guys oil change schedule, he doesn't follow one....just does it whenever
he also heavily offroads & look how many issues he has had with his truck, not that has anything to do with OCI,
but I dont think he is a great example for this matter

& the thread is from 2015, 4 years ago
& the guy is not updating the thread so I think he stopped putting the miles on it
it looks like he got a 2016 gen3 & thats his new main ride

You should be able to get a case of the OEM filters for about $40.

He passed the 05 onto his twin 16 year old boys when he purchased the 3rd gen. As far as I know, it's still in the family; but he hasn't updated anyone in a long while. Hasn't responded to PMs either. Point being, it was still going strong when he stopped driving it.

would love to get an update on that 400k truck....maybe it had a major failure (tranny/motor) or accident, hence the disconnect

I love any hi mileage gen2 tacos/1st hand testimonials from hi mileage gen2 owners
specifically ones with more miles than me...gives me hope to make it to 500k

only 180k miles more to go
    :)

(My new '17 Taco is what shows in my profile. it only has 7k on it.)

What oil do you run? The best oil I know of is amsoil and the max the recc is 25k/1 yr.
