Did you have the pressure set at ~105psi? Also, did you run any gear fluid with LSD additives? These seemed to be the two main reasons for the leaking o rings.

I’ve read a shit ton and there’s owners that have had ARB air locker trouble free for 10+ years and others that had issues right after install.

    Mostly stuff I built.

Out of the 3 ARB lockers I have owned over the years I have had issues out of all of them. All were run at the correct pressure and with the correct lubricant. I have had the o-rings fail, plastic/copper line fail, compressor quit, broken side gears and split a housing wide open. More issues than I have ever had out of auto lockers. Less moving parts, less to leave you in a bind.

Currently running Grizzly lockers in both ends of my Crawler with either 37s or 40s on them depending on where I am wheeling. Not a single issue in years with that setup. And I do street drive it to work 5-6 days a month to keep it in good shape.

I’m feeling a little less inspired as I’m about to install the locker and compressor.

I’ve got an ExtremeAire compressor made in USA. I’m pretty sure those ARB compressors are from China

It seems to me that it would almost be simpler to find an axle with the e-locker and swap axles. Of course wiring is still an issue but surely some tech. savvy person here will figure out the electronics.

    Yes and No
Primary complexity was incorporating into existing 4wd ecu, and dash indicator lights.
*** NOTE, that was a complete fail... but I learned alot on the system to help people wishing to do total manual control. All discussion is now solely directed to manual control. ***

The factory installation on 3rd gen Tacoma provides 2 duty cycles to the locker. A higher one for when rear is unlocked and is attempting to lock, and a lower one for whwn rear is locked and is just maintaining lock.

Neither is 12V. The higher is about 70% duty cycle, which means the locker receives about 50% of the power that it will see if you apply straight 12v. Let me rephrase that so people understand. If you just put 12v on the lock coil, it will see double the power that toyota applies to the lock coil on our trucks.

Will the locker be ok with 12v constant? maybe, rear ends can get pretty hot without the added electric heating... but you wont find me testing it on my newish truck.

So, if a person wants manual control of the 3rd gen tacoma elocker:
Install a power resistor (or pwm) to keep the power in the coil near factory maximum levels (about 1.5 ohm high power resistor), and a flyback diode to protect the coil and relay at shutdown, i believe it should be fine.

In addition, hook up warning lights as desired. I havent sketched up a circuit to do warning lights in the cabin, because nobody who is messing with this type of mod seems to much care about warning lights.... (but it will have to be standalone warning light, not the actual dash lights

OP has an 8" elocker from a 3rd gen 4-Runner, not the newer style unit from the 3rd gen Taco.

Does anyone know what rear is in a 2019 TRD sport 2WD?
