i just picked up my new Tacoma last night and I cannot find any switch or button to turn off the two LED’s in the back corners of the bed when a door is open. I plan to use this camping as I did with my 04 and leave the doors open in camp just to make it easy to get things, etc.
There is an overhead switch to let you disable the lights in the ceiling above the console and the dome light, but it does NOT turn off the bright LED’s. They will drain the battery no matter what I do until I finally shut all the doors. I just called the service guy where I bought it, and he said it’s a new option and he knows nothing about it.☹️ I’m really hoping I will not have to resort to cutting into some wires and installing a switch if at all possible. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I’ve read the manual and found on page 443 “ cargo lamp main switch” ( if equipped) and shows a rocker type switch, mine doesn’t have one).

Should be on the left and it's splice onto the bed light.

I just installed mine the other day and I tested it with this switch.
The switch should be there just for the cargo light in the 3rd brake light above the back window.

how about the switch that turns on/off the rear center brake light/cargo light above rear window? I have a '17 taco OR and the said switch is located lower left side of the steering wheel I'd imagine you have the same switch and location, maybe give it try :thumbsup:and see what happens...:fingerscrossed:

I looked all around the rest of the cab for any other switches and could not find any. Here’s a photo of my dash area where it does not have that type of rocker switch ( wish it did). Maybe I got a Monday morning truck☹️

Nope, no other switches found that control the LED’s, I’ve rechecked the dash / cab several times and mine has no cargo light switch, it’s just blank where one should be as in the above photos. The dealer told me the LED’s were a new opinion and they would “have to ask” about it and get back to me. I can’t help but wonder if someone simply decided not to wire them in on the assembly line. If you don’t close the door completely, the two bright LED’s remain on. I hope I can get help eventually, sounds like I’m the isolated case.

Here’s pic of bed lights, 15 seconds after shutting door, they go off.

It sounds like they are wired into the interior lights with the dome and map lights. They my not have a switch, unless the lights themselves press in or there is a push switch near the mounting location of the lights?

That’s what it appears, they work with the map / dome lights when the door is open, and even if I turn the map/dome lights off using the switch inside the cab, the bed LED’s stay lit and ONLY turn off when I close the door completely. Can’t wait to hear what the dealer comes back with.

That sounds about right, and forgot to give me a switch or way to disable them. Thanks to all for trying to help, I’ll post the final outcome when it’s done in case there are more of these on their way to other customers.

Is there a switch in the bed of the truck? On a side wall. Have seen that done.

I'd keep pressing the dealership. They should be able to install a switch for you. You of course could do it yourself, but seems like they, or Toyota are culpable.

Curious how this turns out. I have the same lights but have the on/off switch as shown earlier in the thread

I do as well. It's a nice addition but you do need to be able to disable it.

Is it 15 seconds after just closing the doors, or 15 seconds after closing the doors and locking the doors?
according to the instructions supplied by @Boghog1 they should shut off immediately when the doors are locked.
If the doors are not locked, it may take the 15 seconds to time out with the interior lights.

That is correct, they stay on for 15 seconds when the doors are shut and immediately off when locked with FOB.

I’m thinking someone on the assembly line may have just ran out of switches and sent it on it’s way.

Pretty sure that was a dealer installed option or port installed...if it were factory you would have a switch.

I can believe that, I’m just hoping the dealer will come around and get it right with a switch. I’m going back tomorrow and hope they will make good on it,
