Yup. I'm off Hatfield road. So I'm a bit from that junction, but that's the closest I know off.

Yeah we have state forest as a part of stump field behind our house. I'm happy. My godfather lives in Weare so I spent all my free time up here as a kid. It's going to be a nice life change for us.

The second district I work for has such a nice campus. Everywhere you go, you have a great view of Greylock:

    Ol' Hoosac Valley H.S.??

We compete against them in sports growing up, our H.S. is actually named Mount Greylock and is pretty much on the opposite side of the Mountain. You might be familiar since you are all around the area.

I love that area but North Adams is a weird town, isn't it? Maybe it just seems that way.

Ehh, It's been on the up and up with some cultural attractions and concerts and other developments coming in. On the other hand, with the opioid stuff, there's plenty of that to see too. Overall North Adams is much nicer than when I was a kid though.

Adams is actually the town of Hoosac Valley school though. They are a conflicted town...really high taxes, really bad roads, schools and everything else. School superintendents keep leaving, they are in a never-ending battle with the town of Cheshire who they share schools and some budgeting with and I think even some of their town leaders have been leaving now? It's a real mess.

North Adams roads are wacky--the sign placement on some doesn't make sense and I've almost accidentally gone the wrong way on a few one-ways there. I would think it was just me, but I've seen lots of other people almost make the same mistakes.

Yup, it is. I've never been in Greylock but drive by it a lot.

I saw a house in Adams that I was going to look at until I saw it'd be $4k/year in property taxes for a house with a very modest value. I wonder if they and Lanesborough realize their financial mismanagement is preventing people from even considering their towns--it can't be just me.

Yeah sorry, I just don't believe that. I've been driving in the south shore for 20 years now. Your version of getting right through might be very different from mine. Maybe you leave work at like 7pm then sure...

Our business on 75 acres is about 4k a year where we are. These other towns would tax us out of business. The tax savings here vs. other towns literally covers a large percentage of our managers salary...theres a job that we couldn't have afforded to create in any town touching us.

Rt 3 blows so anything to do with the South Shore sucks. I spent the first 25 years of my life there and drove into boston every day for high school. Going to the cape from the 495 stretch is much easier.

It's amazing how much taxes can vary by town. When I was first looking for a house, I found a complete reno house in Wayland, but it was relatively cheap (for that area). I figured I might be able to pick it up low, fix it up and sell it and make out alright on it. Then, I realized the taxes alone were north of $12k/year. The house was very small, I think 1,100 sq-ft +/-, a complete tear down (I was going to try to gut and renovate) and it was a postage stamp of a lot. The tax rate absolutely floored me.
