So I have four tires on my truck (crazy right?)

I hit a curb and blew the sidewall out of the rear right tire. These tires are only about 18K miles in (General Tire Grabber UHP) I'd say 60/70% treadwear left (measured : 8/32").

So I grabbed a used tire same size, Michelin probably about 40/50% treadwear left (Meaured: 6/32").

My question is, should I put that tire on the front or back?

I've always read the better pair of tires should always be in the back. Everyone I asked today said the opposite.

It ain’t wise to mix Michelin with other brands, Michelin are kinda unique in build, they will act different.

That said, always put the best tires on the main drive wheels. The only reason to put the best on the front would be if you’re driving in 4w and having to break ground.

I’d put them in the back to start.....you get your control from the steering tires up front

But aren’t you going to rotate them anyway, so this will only be temporary? One of the mismatched tires (could be the “new” tire, could be the old) will wear faster than the other regardless of where you have it in the rotation. So your best bet is to keep an eye on it and rotate to keep wear down.

Best bet would be to buy a matching 4th tire and have it shaved down to the same height as the other 3

I just rotated them about 2K miles ago.

I was initially gonna buy a new tire, but it's $160. This used tire cost me $35. :notsure:
