I use Quicken. Its really a lot of work to be honest. Some accounts don't download correctly on their own so you have to do it manually. I also don't want to count the full purchase of something on a 6 month 0% deal so I don't pull the account in so I can expense it monthly. I spend a few hours a month on it, but I go overboard. I can tell anyone what I spent on all sorts of things. Years of data.

I also do accounting and finance work so its second nature.

Truth be told I have receipts all over my desk I'm planning to work on this weekend. Fun.

It actually is. I'm fucked up and enjoy it.

Nope, totally get it, the debt freedom and money managing feeling is way better than the consumption feeling.

Agreed, better to invest and earn a return but the days of 0% auto loans are gone now unless your buying a Domestic right now.

Truck is bought and paid for as of today. No reason to have a truck payment in my life 0% or otherwise.

Will have purchased it two years ago in August.

Paid cash. My other car has 50K in factory options so paying cash for the Pro wasn’t that bad

Zero percent interest for 48. No reason to pay it ahead. Free money. Other than paying this interest-free loan, we are debt free.

You and I are in the same boat. With interest rates as low as they were when I bought my truck in 2016, it’s hard to justify paying cash. If I was buying a vehicle today, it would likely be a different story. Interest rates are not nearly as good as they were. I’ve made many times more money with the cash I held in investments, is traded of buying the truck outright, than interest paid over the total loan term.

Really it just comes down to the math. Easy decision if you ask me.

I’ve never carried a loan to term! Paying extra on the house now since that’s the only debt we have.

Wow congrats to all those paid off! Mine is too not a 3GEN though but would love a new truck but now retired so drive what I got. Maybe with splurge when I can start drawing my TSP in a year.

If the interest rate of your loan is low enough, like lower than the rate of inflation then there is absolutely no incentive to pay the loan back any sooner than necessary. Invest the money saved on extra loan payments. Tomorrows money is worth less than todays. Same reason I have no interest in paying off my mortgage early. Makes no sense to me. I could have easily bought my Tacoma for cash but leased it instead while I put as much of my capital as possible to work.

If the interest of your loan is greater than the rate of return that money could make for you, pay it off asap. Otherwise it might be cheaper not to.
