    Hi everyone,
I had an odd issue with my 2016 Tacoma the other day. The front drivers side bed bolt loosened up and the whole bed moved forward and raised up. I found it when I went to put gas in it and realized the bed had lifted and sheared the gas cap off. Now the gas cap wasn't broken as it seemed its designed to shear off in such instances. I had to loosen up all 6 bed bolts and pull the bed backwards into place and re tighten the bolts. It took all of 15 minutes to do. I'm still not sure how it happened as I do not go off road with the truck. It has 38,000 miles on it. IMG_2551.jpg IMG_2552.jpg

Wondering how the bed could move when only one of six bolts is loose.

Are you the first owner of the truck and bought it new?

My bad thought that was the after picture...looked like a stack of washers upon closer inspection of photo it’s the threads of the loose bolt.

To reply to spoonman, I really didn't want anything! I was just putting it out there to check your bed bolts.
I bought it brand new and the beds never been off for any reason. I thought it was hit at first but there is no damage anywhere so I figured it just loosed up. I had parked it with the driver side tires on a asphalt curb, that could have caused it to twist and pop up.

    Assembled in Mexico.

And to anyone all primed to jump on my remark...
...can you seriously claim that the QC of the Mexican made Tacomas matches QC of Toyotas made in Japan?
Or even when production was at Fremont, then San Antonio?

Just a couple examples of issues extensively discussed here at TW:
Bolts improperly torqued, transmission fluid way low, straight from the factory...

Or to go back a bit:
Rotting frames made by Dana Corp in Pueblo, Mexico.

    It matters.
Back in the day, Canadian made GM and Ford engines were prized.
Because the quality control was better.

It's a common problem, however it being this low miles, not being older, and not being offroaded is very odd, maybe even a defect. Mine wore down so I noticed it at 130,000 miles. Usually it happens at about 100,000. Usually the bed does not come up so much, just gets loose. The usual fix is to put polyurethane washer pieces in between the frame and bed so it won't run and wear down. That looks like it might need some serious work. Maybe a couple hours taking the bed off might yield some answers?

It really wasn't bad to fix. I had to loosen the other bed bolts and believe me they were tight! I had to use the impact gun on them. The bed pulled back and dropped on to that rubber bumper. It did take some considerable tightening to pull it down to the frame. It was like the composite bed was warped. It tightened down right to the frame. I was surprised it popped up so much it sheared off the gas cap.
Last year I had crazy electrical issues with this truck. It was resolved by replacing the third brake light on the cab. It was allowing water to follow the wiring harness and somehow grounding out the computer. No speedometer, brake failure symbol, seatbelt alarm never shut off. That took the dealer 4 tries to find and fix. So I decided to fix the bed myself!

Folks this has nothing to do with being Made in Mexico, but Toyota's willingness to cheap out because they know they can. Start looking closer even the carpet in these trucks is of a lower grade than that of a 1st gen. It's almost like they sent Bonnie to Michael's for some felt. I like my truck, but things aren't what they use to be.
