Quick question about LBJs. While I'm letting everything soak in Pb blaster. I was comparing the two ball joints and noticed the bolts that came with my ball joints are a little bit shorter than the original. Also the new ones are flanges vs washer. Will this make a difference or do I have to go to Toyota and get the correct ones?

Did you get OEM LBJs? I would grab some Toyota bolts to be sure you have the right ones, if the bolts break while installed the LBJ will fail

I'd be more concerned that the diameter looks smaller on the new ones. I wouldn't worry about length, unless they don't thread in far enough but I'd bet they're fine. Flanged vs washer also not something I'd be super concerned about. I'm not as familiar with these lbjs but I don't think those are the key failure points you're mentioning

You got the ones without the bolts included. The part numbers with the included bolts are 43330-39815 and 43340-39585.

Ya I thought I had heard there were two different assemblies, one with bolts and one without. I still think it would be good to get the bolts that match what you pulled out, the ones I ordered that were separate from the LBJ assembly looked identical to the ones I took off.

Then again, one of those new ones did snap in half when I torqued it at 59 ftlbs so who knows lol. I had to reuse one of my old ones

Ill just use the bolts i have since no toyota parts center is open today. I checked the FSM and they are the same grade as the old ones. What im more concerned about is the number of threads are 1.5mm shorter and will be more apparent since ill reuse the boot protectors.

Hey, thanks for putting this together. Lots of fun. I don’t know if my truck got airborne, but I know my butt did.
It was good to meet everyone!
Also, as a possible future destination: Butler Peak. 3N13b off of 3N13. It is 2 wheel drive, but a great scenic drive up to 8500’ and a short hike to get to the lookout. TrailsOffroad has a good write and video. I think they just opened it this week.

Is that the lookout above Fawnskin you were talking about when we were stopped at the campground?

Yep. Not positive that it is even open. A guy said he drove it on 6/17/19 and someone else said the gate was still closed on 6/23/19. Call the Mountaintop Ranger District to check if planning to go. I think 1.5 hrs up and back plus time to hike to the top and take pics, eat etc.
