    Hello to all.
I purchased a 1st Gen. Tacoma from a friend. Actually traded labor for it as he needed work done on his house. I figured this would be cool since I hang out at his house a lot anyway plus he has a lift which obviously makes car repair a snap, well most of the time!
I landed a 97' extra cab with many miles,277,000 but hey people get 3-4 hundred thousand
    out of these trucks sometimes.
We settled on $2000.00 total price in labor that I owed to his house.
My friend is a car guy(Ford model A's as well as many other Fords & volkswagons in his garage
so my new to me Tacoma was clean and well maintained.
I needed a truck to haul some furniture to Oregon to my daughter, I live in California.
Well on the way to Oregon my Taco blew a head gasket 180 miles from my destination. My AAA membership gives me 200 miles free towing. Whew!
While in Oregon I look up a mechanic through AAA , get another tow to their shop and request they find a used engine for me and I only had $3000.00 Max. I could spend.
They took 5 days to get me an estimate and it totaled $7500.00. Say What!
I rented a Uhaul van and a tow dolly and dragged my Taco back to California in the snow and rain, this was a bitch, that Uhaul had a limiter and would do 75 MPH max.
So I get back home and look up my friend a give him the whole story plus a quilt trip about his well taken care of truck, 277,000 miles could have happened at anytime to anyone right!
So he says okay I take $1000,00 off the sale price, that will pay for a used motor. Sounds
good so I look on line for a used motor, find one for $1100.00 shipping included and buy it.
5 year 50,000 mile warranty and shipped to his house, $75,00 extra to drop at a residence.
Okay. I was not around when it arrived but a couple of hours later I got to his house and checked out the 2.4 ltr used motor strapped to a pallet and looked at the paperwork to see where it shipped from. It said Eugene Oregon, end of story f---k, well almost. Only one
glitch and I thought it was in the dealer installed kill switch because everything was hooked up accordingly. not! just had to swap some internal distributor parts from the old to the new and my Tacoma runs and feels like it will go for many years to come. Not my 1st Toyota, I had an 82' with the old 22R that went 367,000 so I knew what was possible.
Thanks for letting me share my Tacoma story and I know there is good help here if I should need it! Now end of story!
